Comment: Just to put a nail in this one, Oblivion runs fine at medium settings, with grass off and view distance reduced from infinite on my machine! 6600GT stock, 3200XP 512RAM It is pretty clear that a very high spec machine would be needed to run the game as the designers intended, but it will run on a lower spec, it just looks a bit more like Morrowind.

Reply: (edit)Did you turn on Full Scene Anti Aliasing or Anisotrophic filtering? Try to run the game at 1024x768 at high details with FSAA and AA off to see what happens... Reply: (edit)Ok so it deals with 2x AA, the game gets a bit sluggish in the open though. I was running at 1024*768 in my original tests. Ok, so 4*AA 8*Aniso with everything on full (HDR off due to AA) the game 'looks' amazing, I'd guess 1-3 fps in the open 4-12fps in a narrow corridor looking at the floor ;-). Bah, I need a new PC!

Reply: (edit)You will see a huge performance increase if you upgrade to 1 gig of ram. You can get 512MB DIMMS for under $50...

Reply: (edit)Yeah, I did have a gig but 1 512 stick was faulty. But, when it did work the diff is not as big as you'd think, a super fast HDD is the key for Oblivion, 1 gig definately helped in San Andreas though :-( I'm never ordering generic again! Crucial all the way..

Reply: (edit)lol i've got oblivion running on my POS system with an unsupported card with 30-40 fps in the sewers thanks to lots of ini tweaks and the custom shaders . with the tweaks, its fast (if ugly)..better than nothing i guess...too bad the game crashes everytime i try to use magic. ..oh well...back to playing fallout 2 i guess.
