Hi,

I just got the new Need for Speed, NFS: Most Wanted and i'm very pleased with the gameplay it gives me but not very with the performance i get..
Framerate is good (around 25~45fps) but the game stutters quite a lot, every 2 seconds or so it gives me a stutter..
I'm running it @ 1024x800 with 2xAA 8xAF and everything on high except world detail wich is at medium.
I tried lowering all of the settings and even with AA, AF, world detail and shadows on the lowest option it stutters..

I've got 1,5GB of RAM in my mobo and 256MB on video.. so that cant be it..
I also dont have this problem in any of my other games, not even in BF2 and F.E.A.R.

So is there any way to fix this? cause it's really anoying to have memory stutters in a race game, and it distroys the nice gameplay it does offer.

This is my rig in case you need it:

Athlon XP @ 11x220MHz
Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
1,5GB GEIL
Western digital 7200RMP 8MB cache
GeForce 6800 GT @ 415/1175
3DMark05: 5824 3dmarks

Thanks.

If you don't have problems with any other games, it would seem the prob would be with the game, not the hardware. Did you check for a patch? As for your hardware...your video card is being bottlenecked by your "weak" CPU. And although it's said that the socket A system doesn't benefit from running dual channel mode, by running 1.5GB, you're running single channel mode. Do you have the Memory Frequency set at 100%?

Hmm... If you say that other games work well I doubt it is a hardware problem. It must be something related with drivers and compatibility. First of all I think you should try reinstalling the game, and perhaps reinstalling the video card drivers (upgrade to the latests if you don't have them). Also, download the latest patch for the game. Sometimes it's a simple software issue and it is fixed by doing this.

Well i've checked and there isn't any patch availdable yet, and as for my RAM, it IS running it Dual Channel, my mobo is capable of running 2 different sizes of memory, (for example 1024MB and 512MB like i've got) in Dual Channel.
So that's not the problem, and it's also running at 100% (440MHz) ofcourse.

But what about my CPU? is it really that weak? is there anything on the market that would not bottleneck my VGA on a Socket A?
Because if i jump to A64 then i also need to buy a 939 mobo and a PCI-e videocard and that will cost me a lot of $$$

Also, a A64 3000+ will score a 2800+ PR in Sisoft Sandra, my CPU gets a 3500+ rating, so i'm a bit confused...
Is there any app i can use to test if my 6800GT is bottlenecked by my CPU??

Thanks agian.

Fennerman,

I play fear @ 1024x800 with AA 2XQ / AF 4X with everything on high accept volumetric light density wich is @ medium and without soft shadows ofcourse...

I get decent framerates from 20 to 40fps, and get a 0% under 20FPS in the "test settings" cinematic.

the only time when my FPS go bad is when i shoot some guys from a closeup with slomo, but then it's still very playible, i guess this is caused by my CPU then..

Then I guess it's a Processor problem. It gets fully loaded so it stutters. you won't find a A socket processor that wouldn't bottleneck your video card, cause the card is good. Anyway, it could still be a memory problem... just in case, try taking off those extra 512 ram just to see if it works...

I say it's the game itself because the demo does exactly the same on my system?
Mostly it loops on mine.

I've only got a 512 stick o ram in at the moment tho but oc'd @ 250x9x4.

I'd say my system is well capable of running this game.
No probs with other games.
