Not Reading Graphics card

Specs: Windows Vista
I own an MSI-GX630 notebook, I bought it used 3 months ago. The laptop was working great until just last week,

I thought it was a HDD problem, but I replaced the HD and did a fresh install of Vista and what used to be a Nvidia 9600 GT mobile card is now registering as a Standard VGA adapter.

I am at a total loss on what happened, or indeed what to do. I've tried to install drivers from Nvidia's website as well as MSI's. Games will not open saying "Failed to find appropriate display device."

You need to reinstall all the device drivers. You lost them when you swapped the HDD & reinstalled Vista. Windows loads generic drivers...that's what the Standard VGA is. You're going to have to hunt down the drivers you need....chipset, video, sound, network, etc. Graphics drivers for laptops can be a little difficult to find. Your best bet is the MSI site. Make sure you install the correct do not have a 9600GT, you have a 9600M GT, there's a difference.

Thanks for the speedy response! I've downloaded some drivers, how do I know if they're installed and working properly? Will it show up under Display Adapters in Device Manager?
