Nobody can see my server...

Hi, I don't know if this is the right forum to post this, but here it goes anyway:

I am using Roger's Cable for my internet connection and have set up a router since I am sharing the connection with 3 more people.

Whenever I create a server for any online game, no one else but my roommates can see it.

We came to the conclusion that the problem lies in the way the modem (or the router) is set :P. However, we are all pretty ignorant on that topic :)

Help?
