Ok, I've been having this problem since I got my PC a month or so ago, and haven't fixed it yet. Whenever playing a game on the PC, the sound will work for a few minutes at most, and then become choppy and quit alltogether. So, I tried to install new drivers, but that didn't help. I have a Radeon 9800 card, and was running the sound off the integrated motherboard. So, I went out and bought a Soundblaster Audigy to solve the problem, but it still does the same thing. Tried fiddling with all the accelerations etc. but it still does the same thing. I've come to realize through others that this seems to be a DirectX issue with Windows XP. I tried installing the latest DirectX, but the same thing happens. I have found others with similar problems, but no solutions. I have found that I can run a game that is based in a window without losing sound ie: Civilization 3 or the Sims. But anything that switches over will always lose sound. Anybody have any ideas about how to fix this??? Thanks!

Seems a very strange problem. There wont be any need to change the sound card again as the audidgy is the best if not the best sound card on the market. Just by process of elimination i would guess the problem now could be to do with you speakers. You say you dont loose sound playing games in a windowed mode, are you speakers monitor intergrated? I had several problems with a monitor with intergrated speakers, and for some reason audio would only be played through the left, but through speakers/headphones everything was fine. Try some headphones plugged into the sound card and see what happens.

Well gee, I never thought of aomething simple like that, but yes, it does work to put headphones on through the sound card. My speakers are just Altec Lansing 5.1, which are from my old computer. They are not integrated with the monitor though. I wonder why that would be the problem... Thanks for the help though!!!
