Subject: Next Generation Video Cards for AGP
OS: Win Xp
CPU/Ram: 1 GB
Model/Manufacturer: Custom
Comment:
I was wondering that are the new generation video cards such as Nvidia's 8800 or ATi's 2900's are going to be available on the AGP slot or does this generation marks the end of AGP?

Thanks.

My primary system specs:
Pentium 4 530J @ 3.15 GHz
Asus P5S800-VM
Kingston ddr 1 gb
Westren Digital WD800BB

The 8XXX generation might extend AGP to its lower rungs like 85XX or 86XX but more than likely NOT with the 88XX & for very good reasons too.

I did hear that the low-end Radeon 2400 HD and midrange 2600 HD will definitely come in AGP flavours.

I'm not sure what nVidia's AGP plans are.

Hell, ATI still makes pci video cards. So it wouldn't surprise me in the least if you see ATI making AGP cards for a while to come.

Its still good to hear that at least they are available in AGP. 86xx or 26xx are pretty good enough for me since i might upgrade soon.

By the way, Sabertooth why wont they create AGP cards for the Nvidia 88xx series. My guess is due to power differences?

Power is really not the drawback but the overall system's "horsepower". Right now, AGP is pretty much confined to systems based on motherboards from the bottom part of the mainstream pile & having a high performing card like the 88XX in such a system would throttle the card's performance potential.

Thanks for your answer Sabertooth. I guess i might have to upgrade to a PCI-E motherboard in order to get these cards and my computer is getting old anyways.

Thanks.
