My new pc is running and i can access the bios.
Specs:
Case: Antec P180
Mobo: P5WD2 Premium
Ram: Corsair Xms2 DDR2 667
CPU: Pentium D 805
GPU: PCI-X X700 (Temporary!)
PSU: Tagan 420w
Heatsinnk/Fan freezer 7 pro.I was wondering if my temps are any good. At stock and idle my CPU runs at 36/37 degrees and at 3.0ghz runs at 38/39 degrees. How much
increase can i expect at load? Also how can i install sata drivers without a floppy drive as i do not plan to fit one in my pc?Thanks in advance

I don't care how outdated or how seldom used they are...you should ALWAYS have a floppy drive!
Your temps are fine...very good in fact.

I will order one with my hard drive order.
Just to clear things up is there no easy way to install sata drives without a floppy drive?

"Just to clear things up is there no easy way to install sata drives without a floppy drive?"
As the drive you install windows on? If the SATA controller not detected by Windows setup, no.
And Jam is right, as you're finding out. Floppy drives seem pointless until you see the point of having one. Just spend the $10 and get it up front.

Easy is with a floppy. I suppose you could burn the SATA drivers to a CD, then when you get to the point in the XP install where you need to install the drivers, you could remove the XP CD, pop in the driver CD, then switch back to the XP CD again? I'm not sure about that because I never tried it. I won't build a machine without a floppy drive. They're useful for flashing the BIOS, running memory tests, diagnostics, etc, without booting into Windows...that way the tests are performed free of the OS. Plus you can always use them for small file transfers. IMO, it's a big mistake not to install a floppy drive, especially when they're so cheap.

Nope. It must be on the floppy drive.
The only other option is slipstream the third party controller drivers into the Windows install media.

I don't think idle temperature is what you need to be looking at... Full load is where things go wrong... If you enable TM2 in the BIOS, the CPU will slown down to 2.8Ghz during idle mode to save power and throttle back to full speed at load. So the loading temperature is a more important factor... As far as max load goes, expect to see a 10-30C increase depending on thermalpaste, FAN, air flow and heatsink thermal resistance... As far as my setup goes at 4.1Ghz...
Idle temp = 50C full load = 65C (dual prime95 + throttle watch after 1 hour mobo temp 32C)
Increase = 15CIn the BIOS doing nothing, 56-57C flucating 6-7C increase...

If you are intersted i have a hitatchi deskstar
80gb sata 2 and a a floppy drive on order which should arrive Monday. I will keep you posted about overlcocking results and such. I can't wait till Monday :)

It's not at all uncommon to have a P4 built in the last 3 or 4 years to increase 15°C or more under load...don't worry about it.
Reread the post from TMP-Man.
As for the floppy drive, I couldn't agree more with jam...always build the machine with a floppy.
