So im looking around for motherboards to support an intel core 2 extreme 2.93 ghz. and i wanted a p35 chipset support, and i stumbled upon this mother board

"Asus P5K3 Deluxe WiFi-AP Intel Socket 775 ATX Motherboard / Audio / CrossFire Ready / PCI Express / WiFi / Dual Gigabit LAN / S/PDIF / USB 2.0 & Firewire / Serial ATA / RAID"

everything looked good until i saw that it ran DDR3 ram, which is too expensive for my budget, can u run DD2 or do i have to downgrade?

Wait a second...you're willing to pay $250+ for a board, $985 for a CPU, but $400 for 2GB DDR3 RAM is too much? lol

No, you can NOT run DDR2 RAM in a DDR3 board!

But there are boards based on the P35 chipset that use DDR2 RAM & they only cost about 1/2 as much as the board you chose.

Soory to say No! Just like DDR to DDR2, DDR2 have the same pin count as DDR3 but they did not share the same key. But when i google your motherboard model it says that it supports DDR2 1066 not DDR3. Can you read the manual again and check whether your motherboard do support both DDR2 and DDR3 or just DDR3.
