I'm looking to upgrade my mobo and cpu. I currently have an Emachines T2615 w/VIA KM266 mobo and Athlon XP 2600+ 266MHz FSB. I wanna upgrade to a mobo that supports faster ram, mine only supports pc2100, and a 64bit Athlon. I recently got a Tiger Direct Gold Card, and found this mobo/cpu bundle. Tell me what you guys think.

That combo is ok, but if you want to be up to the future, you'd better get a socket 939 mobo with a PCIe slot, or better yet with two, so you can then use SLI

He's right about the fact that you should get the socket 939 but I doubt SLI necessary becuase of the sheer expense of it.

But that combo is good dont get me wrong.

Hey Stu, I just referred to SLI mainly 'cos of the scalability, I didn't mean him to go and buy 2 graphics cards too, just so he´s ready for the future.

That would be nice to get. My case is a micro atx, so I'm limited on what mobo to get, and I don't currently wanna upgrade to a new case. I might just hold off all together for a while.

Thats ok man, but with your power supply i bet you could find a case with no power supply for less, and then get yours to that one.

Just get a new case! MicroATX power supplies usually aren't as reliable anyway, and I wouldn't trust an emachines power supply to power anything.

It isn't an Emachines Power Supply. I might get a new case down the road. Would look funny tho since my 2 dvd drives won't match any case other than the Emachines.

Well, MicroATX power supplies still go out more often than normal ATX's do.

As for how it looks, definitely your call there. I just like my PC to perform exceptionally and work. If it looks like crap, I don't care. ;-)

emachines are cheap-o, but as for a case, hey- I got my ultra-hot case (tricked out with LEDs and an integrated handle) for $35 at newegg.com. If you're a LAN party goer, than shoot for a decent looking case so you won't get teased or have condecending comments fired at you. Just a casual suggestion... If a snazzy looking case is the same price as another case with similar performance, but has bla looks, go for the snazzy- you'll be the envy of the place. And when people first see that monster of a case, their first immpression (most of the time) is "dang! that must be a super performer" or something like that. Hey, I've had it happen.

As for that mobo you found online, NO WAY! Stay away from integrated video. Even when it's disabled, being hooked up to the chipset still sucks some resources and bandwidth. Also, the VIA chipset isn't as good as an nVidia nForce3. I'm not endorsing all-nVidia, I'm saying that it IS better, just look at the benchmarks and reviews. Also, I used to be a tigerdirect loyalist, until I compared their prices and service to newegg.com. Esspecially their shipping- it depends on what component you order, but newegg is very often less cash for shipping. And they're fast, I got my USB drive 3days early!
