Hi there, I just f***ed my other PC, I don't really care anymore, it never worked properly. Im just irritated I have to save up £800 for a new pc. Anyway, what should I get for £800, i'd prefer the prices from UK shops, I want something that is nicely overclockable, and a good PCI-E graphics card. I also want an AMD 64 processer. Any ideas anyone?

Well, before I advise you, how did you f--- your pc? Reading your specs, I could still do good for another year. Perhaps there is a way to fix it?

Now into spending those 1500 bucks...

Video card: 7900gt
Absolutly the best bang for the buck, it is faster than a 7800gtx and it's priced for only 300 bucks (the same as the 7800gt's were priced)
btw, manufacturers like xfx or evga are already releasing these cards overclocked madly, some of them have something like a 20% overclock.

Motherboard: DFI LANPARTY UT NF4 Ultra-D
The best one if you want to overclock.

CPU: a64 3700+ san diego. Dual core isn't neccesary yet but If I had the money I'd probably get one, but keep in mind that there is almost no application out there that takes advantage of the two cores, and when they do, dual core will probably be better & cheaper. However some games like quake 4 are already taking advantage of dual core so I really don't know... your money. If you go dual core I'd recommend the x2 4400+

Ram: In my opinion, low latency ram is way too expensive and the perfomance gains aren't worth it. I'd get two sticks of 1024mb of corsair value ram. You will be much better off with 2gigs of value ram than 1 gig of expensive ram. Trust me, quake 4 begs for two gigs of ram in ultra quality mode, and probably so will upcoming games. I would also encourage two gigs of ram because if you ran one gig in dual channel (2x512), when you move to 2 gigs you'll have four ram modules on your pc, and that hurts amd64's performance a lot because to run those four modules you need to switch to 2t command rate, which is about an 8-10% slower.

PSU: Some other people here can give you good advices...

Well I will not keep going because I don't know what you are keeping of your old system (monitor, hard drives, etc.)

Hrmm the graphics card is quite pricy (£400, $700) are there any less than that which offer really good gaming performance. What about the latest ATIs VS the Nvidias newer lineup?

It's apparent that something went wrong with your Aries package from Savastore, now you'd need to tell us what part of the Aries system it is that's pissing you off. There may be something that could be done to help you out.

Secondly, building anything less than an optimum high-end system will not get you a fair cost to value upgrade, in other words the less money you spend on this upgrade the worse, considering you are upgrading from a 754 based A64 3200+.

Its all pissing me off. I spent £1000 on this machine just over a year ago. They have replaced every component except the HDD and CPU. I beleive if the HDD had a problem, that it wouldn't work at all, and if the CPU had a problem that would be the same. I've sent it back 3 times, but each time it comes back worse.

Depending on what size case (mATX/full size) you have, get yourself an inexpensive PCIe/Socket 754 motherboard, a second tier manufacturer should be OK and restrap your 754 rig.

Computers make you a much more stress-bearing person indeed. Also more patient. Look at the positive side of things!
I'd go and tell those guys how pissed off you are and tell them to give you your money back. I did that with my psu that came bad twice.

Can you describe what problems are you having with your PC? It could be an easy step to fix it. Also I check on Intel's Conroe CPU, so far 20% faster than FX60 at F.E.A.R and Q4, maybe that is a better investment for wait for instead of upgrade now. The power consumption for the Conroe CPU is way lower than AMD FX series, meaning more room for you to overclock. See link below:

From some place I heard they replace the CMOS chip for $10 including flashing it. Maybe that is a good place to start with...
