MMmmm... This sounds good but I would go for AMD for gaming. Apparently they are better for gaming. I'm not sure what AMD's equivalent is for this processor is but I think getting one of the X2 processors would be great. Limited Funds?? If you are planning on buying that it dosent seem so limited :P Oh well good luck.

DIE STEAM DIE!

Hi
Mattwiz3 is absolutely right, you need an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800, it´s better than the Intel Pentium D830 and it´s cheaper, and of course a mobo with Socket 939, maybe from DFI or MSI.

They're both right, don't go with Intel for gaming, get a socket939 Athlon64 (x2 if you want dual core)
you will also save money on your memory, because you can get PC3200 instead of PC5300
Don't put a question here.

LOL LOL LOL
A dual core processor system with onboard sound???
IMHO- These people are just trying to get your money using the "oooo-aaaa" factor. There is no reason to buy a dual-core processor. They could have went single core, put some decent sound in it and probably sold it for less..with XP PRO no less.
WILL POST FOR FOOD.

that system isnt much of a deal, are you able to build your own system, or do you know someone else who could give you a hand? if you're looking to game, an amd cpu would be a better bet, and that 6800xt isn't quite up to snuff either. for a grand you could build a much better amd system. have a look around, maybe you can find just that case somewhere and build a system around it.
you don't need an x2. i'll repeat that, you DONT NEED AN X2! as jam and others have said time and time again the best deals for socket 939 are the 3200+ venice and the 3700+ san diego. grab yourself a good dfi board and a gig of pc3500, along with a 7800gt
Abit NF7-S 2.0
Athlon XP 2600+ @ 2.3GHz
1GB Mushkin PC3200
Sapphire 9700pro

Volcano 7+
Aspire 550W

Ok, how about this configuration.

Scratch That,.. This is what I'm looking at sticking with. Not crazy about the video card but that, along with a sound card will be be purchased else where. Thanks for the help so far.

it has onboard 7.1 surround sound... why do you want to install a separate sound card?
Don't put a question here? lol

Drop that CPU and get a better video card. If you drop that CPU to a single core 3700+ (as suggested before) and pump the money into a 7800GTX , you would get a much better system for gaming.
The system you have now would be better for a workstation that requires intense multitasking, like rendering in 3d while editing textures in another program etc. I also wouldnt hold my breath for games that are optimised by dual core processors. Sure they may "support" them and even gain some slight advantage from them but the likelyhood of a game utilising 100% of a dual core CPU is very slim.
I read an interview (i think on ZDNET) with one of the creators of FARCRY and he was saying that creating multi-threaded applications for gaming would be nearly impossible at the current stage of computing, not only due to the inherent difficulties of programming multiple application threads in parrallel but also due to the fact that multi-threaded programs have to be completely re-coded from a single core program (or vice versa) which make it EXTREMELY price prohibitive, and they would have to make two versions of the game due to the prevalence of single core systems (which wont change for a few years yet.
He also said that at present he couldnt see much of an advantage using a dual core system in gaming programming. (Ill try and chase up the article and give a link, but im at work at present =D )
So anyway theres my little rant about dual cores, everyone else is allowed one so why not me =D

Ok, I have never owned a AMD so this is a huge change for me. I just Hope I wont be dissapointed. This PC will be used the majority of the time for gaming but from time to time will be used for other things such as audio streaming, video eiting, etc. About 90% will be for gaming. Here is what I am thinking of going with. What do you think?
Case: NZXT Trinity ATX Mid-Tower Case w/ Enermax EG565P 535 Watt Power Supply [SLI-Ready]
Processor: [939-pin] AMD Athlon-64 4000+ CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology
Processor Cooling: Liquid CPU Cooling Fan System Kit
Motherboard: eVGA nForce-4 SLI Chipset Dual DDR w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, Dual PCI-E MB
Memory: 1024 MB [512MB X2] DDR-400 PC3200 Memory ModuleVideo Card: [PCI-Express 16x] Nvidia Geforce 7800GT 256MB
Hard Drive: 160 GB HARD DRIVE [S-ATA] Maxtor 160 GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Hard DriveAlthough the mother board supports dual vid cards, I purchased only one but left the option to add a second at a later date. Inputs?
Doh!!!

I forgot to mention, I'm getting the 4000+ vice the 3700+ (they are dam near the same minus the price) because I will be paying less as I am receiving it from a friend.
Doh!!!
