Hi, I ordered a computer online, but without an operating system, because I have a windows xp disc at home. I was just wondering if I can just install windows and then play games right away, or do I have to install the hardware drivers too? thanks

You sure do ask a lot of questions.

what's up with that 'homepage link'?

You certainly want to install hardware drivers for all applicable components including the video card before you start to do anything on the system.

My sig is on sabbatical.

I sure hope this XP Home license wasn't used on another computer.

Hey, I never knew there's anything wrong with asking alot of questions. It's the only way to get answers, right? (spare me the google lecture).
I did not use the xp disc on another computer.
So anyway, when my computer arrives, I install windows, and then how do I install the drivers for the video card and stuff? thanks.

It was just an observation - all those questions and hardly ever an acknowledgement.

People who make an honest effort to find things out for themselves (yes, even with Google) tend to earn a bit more respect...

Anyways, how about answering my question??

You mean the question about the homepage? well I really don't know how it got there. I just registered and it showed up as my homepage.I never even checked it out, weird huh?
so please hel me, I'm a real newb and I just spent money on a new PC. This site is the easiest place to get answers, and ones that I understand.so once again, how will I go abut installing all the drivers when my computer arrives(can't wait). I ordered the comp without windows 'cause it's extra cash, and I got the disc at home.

Ok, thanks, that's what I thought.

Maybe you should change or remove it? I would be a little concerned as to how it got there, and would probably run a few spyware scans.

A similar thing happened a while back - different posters had the same homepage link, only that one was to some fairly graphic porno sites. Your link is to some tacky commercial site.

As far as drivers go, whatever XP doesn't pick up, you'll need to install. A new PC should come with a driver CD or at the very least a link to the manufacturer's download site

Thanks a lot jboy. I have some spyware scanner called microsoft antispyware, which doesn't seem to work that well. I'll have to do something I guess.

I have to jump in with jboy here...I am currently posting from an infected box myself. I did not insert that homepage link either. It is an infection that is doing it.

When I noticed it and tried to access it thru my profile settings...link did not show up there for me to remove..

This seems to be related to an "auto complete" thing cus I see the "homepage URL" is hilighted as I am writing this post.

So as jboy suggests...some scans/cleaners are needed. Don't ya have any concerns what is going on with your computer?
Who knows what the heck is going on? For all we know...all our passwords and personal info could be being tracked & sent to whoever built infection.
Will be interesting to know what it is.

Aha!...I see My PM to Justin Weber about that link....He fixed it. Now when you post that URL won't show up. The bad url is being stripped.
Still need to find out what is doing it tho.
