New Build Advice Needed to Finish

Specs: Windows XP
Hello everyone, I started this build way back in late July of last year...Then along came hurricane Gustav and priorities changed quickly.Thankfully I am back on track and with the technology advancement in that short time I switched up the plan of a Q9650 and went with the i7.....My dilemma now is in the last part ( or part if crossfire ) and the O.S.
I am not a big overclocker...Well to be honest unless there is a place in the bios where I can just click on 10% increase option or play around with the ATI OC option with their drivers then I can not even claim the fame of you crazy clockers and I plan on staying the safe boring minor oc button pusher and want a nice stable gaming system...Here is the list thus far:

Case:Thermaltake Tai-Chi (stock cooling system already removed and upgraded...) Two additional 140mm Fans added.
Motherboard:Intel DX58SO-New version with SLI ready ( Not needed since I am an ATI guy ) Possible weak point of system..whats with only 4 dimm slots?
CPU: Intel i7 920
Memory:OCZ PC3 10666 6Gb
Power: Silverstone Strider 750w
Hard drive:W.D 'raptor 300gb
Cooling: Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultima
Misc. Case mod includes some UV(green) plastics for radiator mount. a pair of UV Cold effects are in the LED blues,Greens, and of cours UV.

Now I need advice on the video cards and OS. I am looking at either a single 4870x2 or go for two 4870 in crossfire ( I do like the cooling on the Sapphire Vapor-X 4870 ) the main reasons on the crossfire is cost...I can get a couple of good 4870's for less a cost of a good X2.Should I just get the X2 it worth it?

And last the OS......What is the general veiw between Vista or XP (64)

Thats about it...I appreciate your veiws

I'm not sure what you mean with your overclocking comments but IMO, clicking a "10% increase button" isn't overclocking. And if you're not an overclocker, why are you wasting $250+/- on water cooling?

"whats with only 4 dimm slots?"

Why are you asking us? You picked the board. There are plenty of X58 boards with 6 slots available. I don't know why you would even consider an Intel board. I'm not even gonna bother commenting on the rest of your hardware choices.

Go with Vista 64.

@Jam.....Ah, I see it's one of these kind of forums where the only response one can expect is full of sarcasm...Thanks for the reply anyway.....I was trying to express that I am not an overclocker that shoots for a "My benchmark beats yours" kinda guy but keeps it more mild stable running for needing any more of your comments...Not needed thank you.

FYI, not all overclockers are "My benchmark beats yours" kinda people. I buy lower end CPUs & overclock to higher end speeds, why?

1. because I know how
2. because I'm cheap

L2 cache issue aside, why would I pay $270 for an E8600 @ 3.33GHz when I can get an E7400 for $120 & easily overclock it to 3.6GHz @ 1600MHz FSB with stock air cooling?

What about you & your mega-bucks system? Why are you spending so much money on a system that will quickly depreciate in value? Are you a "my system is better than yours" kinda guy?

My comments in response 1 are valid. Why do you need a $250 water cooling system if you have no intentions of overclocking? And why are you complaining that your board only has 4 DIMM slots when you're the person that picked it out? There are plenty of X58/DDR3 boards out there with 6 DIMM slots.

See now that is funny..Me being a "Mine is better then yours" kinda guy considering that as I speak I am on an old Pentium D with a great game pounding AGP card...As for my "Mega Buck" PC....Why?

1. Because I work hard...

2. I am not cheap....(You should be so proud of yourself)

As for everything else.... I came to this forum hoping to get some input from fellow minded people....Unfortunately all I discovered was shallow. Have a nice day Jam.
