Subject: Need Help Choosing Video Card! OS: Windows XP Home CPU/Ram: Pentium4 - 1.5GHz / 256mb

Comment: I'm looking to upgrade my video card and was wondering if you guys would give me some advice. I'm currently running a geforce2 and it just cant handle newer games. I'm looking for decent performance at a reasonable cost. What do you guys think of the Radeon 9200 and GeForce FX 5200 or even a GeForce 5600XT? (a little more expensive but may be worth it) Thanks!

Reply: (edit)I'd suggest an ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB, most seem to think it offers the best price/performance ratio, and supports DX9. No personal experience with it, I'm using a GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 128MB, and I am a gamer and have no complaints. I would avoid the FX 5200 and ATI Radeon 9200 if you're a gamer, too.

Reply: (edit)the 5200/9200 are crap...dont bother... how much are you willing to spend? if over $150...I would go with the XFX nVidia GeForce FX 5700 ULTRA or the 5900XT. If not, 5600 should be ok...not the greatest but it will do. Don't get the 5600XT, that is just an underclocked 5600... what ever you do but from www.newegg.com ! ! ! cheapest anywhere on the web and fastest delivery too!

Reply: (edit)The 5200/9200 are not crap, they are cheap, decent video cards for gamers who can't afford high-end video cards. Personally if you are interested in any of these 2 I would prefer the 5200 since it has Dx9 Support. The 5600/5600XT are not crap either but I wouldn't get those since they are still pretty expensive and the performance is not worth the money, I would get something else like a 9600 Pro instead for the same price. If I were you, I would pick a cheap video card like the 5200(or 9600 Pro if you can) and buy more Ram(256mb since its cheap) for your CPU. Hope This Helps ---------------------Specs.------------------ Windows Me Asus P4S800 Motherboard Pentium 4 2.6ghz O/C'ed to 3.1ghz 512mb(1x) DDR400 Pc3200 RAM eVGA Geforce FX 5900 SE O/C'ed to 454/780 ----------------

Reply: (edit)*just get a little more expensive video card...you won't regret it...trust me* Ed, have you even tried the video card before? lol I agree, these video cards do have low fps rate but they are only priced at $70-$80, so don't compare it to something like a 9800 XT. I had a 5200 before myself, and I liked the performance boost from my old Geforce 4 MX 440. Personally though Steve, if I would run hardware-depending games like Halo I would get myself something like a 5900 XT for about $100 more and buy more RAM too if you can. If your motherboard isn't locked you might want to consider overclocking it for a big performance boost. Hope This Helps.(Ed, I bet you were the one who posted that message "Windows ME is HORRIBLE" haha...)

Reply: (edit)Nope. I never posted that (notice new name Ed-2) But anyway the 5200/9200 aren't bad for a small...very small gamer. Think about how much you play games, how good you want the quality, and how much you willing to spend. You can get a much better card for a little more money.
