i just bought rome total war today it wont work because of my video card and i dont know mutch about computers what should i do without spending hundreds and hundreds of dollors

You obviously don't understand. There are different types of cards...standard PCI, AGP or PCI-express, so we need to know which type of video upgrade slot your motherboard has. The wattage & amperage specs of your power supply (PSU) are important too because many gaming cards are power hungry. If your PSU is weak, you'll either have to choose a card that won't overburden it or you'll have to replace the PSU. And there are dozens & dozens of different video cards available that range in price from as little as $20 to over $500, but there's no way anyone can recommend a card without knowing system specs.
