OS: win xp home.SP2
CPU/Ram: athlon 64 x2 4200+ / 2 gi
Product: self
Comment:

I use my computer mainly to play fs9 on line
I have two net connections running simultaneously. Game is heavy with AI and scenery.
I recently built a new computer with an Athlon 64 x 2 4200+ cpu in an Asus A8N-sli m/b. A 7900GT vid. card and 2 gigs ram. 650w psu.
I have found this computer runs slower than my previous one with a 3200+ cpu.
Ane I regularly gey dumped from the game, back to desktop. Nothing else is affected. And I can just load game again and continue until the next dumping

I am so disappointed with the cpu that I am about to replace it with a single core 4000+.

Does anyone have any ideas that could save me the cost of replacing cpu?
Thanks

Jack

Just so you know, in single CPU applications, the performance derivative of your X2 4200+ is theoretically similar to that of an Athlon64 3500+ processor.

So I don't see how the A64 3200+ could have been faster than a "3500+", especially when the 3200+ was a 939 CPU. Regardless though, what you should have gotten when you bought the X2 was either the 4400+ or 4800+ since that would have meant twice as much in L2 cache.

If you aren't satified with it to the point of wanting to get rid of it & you can easily dispose of it in exchange for another CPU, you should update to the latest BIOS for your Asus A8N-SLI and get an Opteron 170 instead.

Actually more like the 3200.

With that said, I seriously doubt this is a CPU issue. Are your drivers up to date for your motherboard's chipset, video card, etc.?

Was this a complete new computer? The OS has been reinstalled since you got a dual core cpu?

A64 3500+ (939 Venice) - 2.2GHz (200x11) - 512KB L2

A64 X2 4200+ (939 Manchester) - 2.2GHz (200x11) - 2 x 512KB L2
