SiS, VIA & nVidia are getting pushed out of the motherboard chipset business. SiS has all but disappeared, VIA has very few offerings & nVidia is fading fast. If you want to build a 2010 machine with an Intel CPU, look at the i5, a P55 based board & DDR3 RAM.

Yeah i agree with jam if you want future upgradability you are going to have to move past the LGA 775 platform, because that platform is dead. Intel will not be upgrading anything on that platform anymore, which means no more new processors. The Core 2 Quad Q9xxx was the end of the line on that platform.

If you are looking for something a little bit affordable here are some chocies.

Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor - Retail

$200

Free Shipping.

ECS P55H-A(1.0) LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

$120

$100 after mail in rebate.

Then add the ram that jam suggested in the last think which was $85 dollars and for $385 dollars after the mail in rebate you have yourself a really good build for under $400 dollars.

for a relatively cheap setup are these good?

MSI P55-CD53 P55
Corsair 4gb (2x2gb) Ddr3 1333mhz Xms3 Memory Kit Cl9

i know the memory timings are high (CL9) but its cheap and
when i get more cash ill but quicker ram when its released

Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz

can anyone reccomend a decent cpu cooler for overclocking,
and what do you think is possible without much in a voltage
change?
