motherboard and crossfire question

Hi everyone I am thinking about getting the gigabyte ep45-ud3p mother board to run cross fire X. I have noticed the board is crossfire ready and has two 2.0 express slots but one is x16 and one is x8 why is this? Will you be able to run two x16 video card in this boards please let me know thanx.

Yes, you will be able to run two x16 cards--but the card in the 2nd slot will only run in x8 mode. However, you won't lose any performance running an x16/x8 setup, because the primary card in the first slot will be doing most of the heavy lifting.

Now, if you had a cheaper x8/x8 motherboard, you would lose a small amount of performance, especially with a pair of high end cards.
