CPU/Ram: 2.4/800-ht% & 512 twinx @

Hello Forum,
Again I need some info or Help in the knoledge area I have dual chnel mobo so I am thinking about more twinx by corsair used in the past and hasent let me down until now but this could be due to drop in ram size had 1024 @ 333 x 2 switched to 512 @ 400 x 2 ...
So while looking @ the stats of the stiks I noticed (Q #1)* registered & unbuffered what does this mean & why does it cost more ?? Also I have heard that using more but smaller (in mb's) exple. 4ch So use 4 256's to gain 1 gb or just be simple & use the 512's to gain the same thing (Q #2)Yes that was the next question to reiterate: Performance/Efficency wise to be best to achive 1gig of ram would it be best to use 2 stiks of 512 or 4 stiks of 256 ?? (Q #3) If so to use the 512 then what would be the downfall to go to 2gb of ram ????I dont want over kill but more ram cant hurt or can it ???? Please help....
Patiently waiting,
Jay Birde

Ok, here's the answers:

1.) Not sure about. Know you have to have ECC registered RAM to run 64bit Processors right now.

2.)2 sticks of 512, and if you can go to 2gb go ahead. It's like sex, the more you have the better =P

3.)See above...2gb, if you can buy that much, is great. No, it can't hurt it. Unless your motherboard doesn't support that much..but i'm doubting that.

Registered Memory:
Registers delay memory information for one clock cycle to ensure all communication from the chipset is collected by the clock edge, providing a controlled delay on heavily loaded memories.....usually used in servers.

Unbuffered memory:
This is where the chip set controller deals directly with the memory. There is nothing between the chip set and the memory chips on the module as they communicate, as opposed to.....

Buffered Memory:
A buffer isolates the memory from the controller to minimize the load on the chip set. It is typically used when the system has a high density of memory and/or when a system has more than 3 memory module sockets.

if you thinking of upgradeing to 2gb of ram do it only if you have nothing to spend your money on coz windows and aplications will load up alot faster but if you do alot of gaming it wont make a difference coz no games require more than 512 ddr if your gonna use your system for games invest in a new graphics card i recomend a powercolor radeon 9800 pro.
