Hi all =)
I'm buying a new graphics card this weekend and was hoping to get some advice before i order.
I was just wondering if it's okay to install a new-ish type graphics card into my pc even though the motherboard is pretty old?
My specs are as follows:
Operating System ~ Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Motherboard
CPU Type ~ DualCore Intel Pentium D 820, 2800 MHz (14 x 200)
Motherboard
Name ~ Mexico (GA-8I945PM) motherboard
Name: ~ Mexico (GA-8I945PM Ver 1.0)
Type: ~ µATX motherboard
Manufacturer: ~ Gigabyte
Motherboard Chipset ~ Intel Lakeport i945P
System Memory ~ 3328 MB (DDR2-533 DDR2 SDRAM)
BIOS Type ~ Award Medallion (05/26/06)
PSU ~ OCZ StealthXStream 600 Watt Gamers Power Supply Unit
Case ~ PB Aruba http://tinyurl.com/6rke3c
Current graphics card ~ Radeon x600 256mb (oldie!)So my question is.. would it be fine to install one of the cards (that i'll post below) into my system? As in work properly with my motherboard and such?
Also which of these cards would you recommend? I've already picked out 4 different cards from the suggestions on tomshardware site but would like your opinions too!
I would like to order this today based on your guys recommendation, so please don't be shy!!
Thanks everyone in advance!
Hannah. xoxThe cards:
XFX Nvidia 9600GT: http://tinyurl.com/5ofabh
SAPPHIRE HD3870: http://tinyurl.com/69y7j8
XFX GeForce 8800GT: http://tinyurl.com/67nf8n
ATI Radeon HD4850: http://tinyurl.com/5gkbq4(Sidenote: I need to buy from amazon so it has to be one of those choices! Thanks everyone!)
Anyone out there willing to give me some help please?
(Edit!) From what i understand any of those cards should work on my current mobo/cpu just might be a small decrease in the amount of power i get out of the card, right? As long as the slot (pci-e) and the x16 match up (which is what my current x600 is on) It should work fine? If what i just said is correct does anyone know the performance difference i would get from say a better/newer mobo and cpu to the one i have now? Rough esitmate would do such as "you'll miss out on about 10% of the cards power" if you understand what i mean?
Thank you in advance =)Current CPU: Intel Pentium D model 820 2.8ghz
(21st July Edit)
Put off getting my graphics card last weekend because i really would like you guys advice/opinion on this, can anyone please help me so i can order?
Thanks.
