I've been getting into sports games the last little while, with NBA Live 2003 (GREAT game) and NHL 2003 (also a good game). I decided to purchase NFL for something new. Then I realized something... I don't know how to play football!
I've tried serching on the net for some how-tos and had no luck. Anyone know of any websites that gives a good explanation of the flow of a football (point scheme, downs etc), as well as HOW TO READ THE PLAYS!! LOL
This probably sounds stupid, but hey, the manual sucks, and I'm a programmer, not a football player ;-)

football is this, you get three tries to get the ball past the yellow line. The 4th try will be turning the ball over to the other team depending on how far your kicker kicks it. After getting the ball past the yellow line repeat the process until you get the the end (touchdown). After the touchdown you kick to get the extra point. In defence the players help out alot so on the guy you are controlling just run like mad to the QB and try to stop him or the guy her threw to from getting past the yellow line. This is generally the idea, everything else will come eventually. Hey this worked for me considering i am 13-0 with the Colts in Madden 2004 for the PC. I have done some crazy stuff like throw for touchdowns with the Kicker etc. but it is fun. Try to use a good team so you wont get frustrated when you get beaten, after you know the basics challenge yourself with the weaker teams.
