I recently bought a used Nvidia 6600GT from someone on Hardforum.com. After installing it I played some Call of Duty United Offensive to see what kind of frame rates this card could get. To say the least, I was disappointed. The card is installed in a AGP 4x bus which makes me think that this could be the bottleneck. I asked some other people that I play with about it and one of them told me they had that same card, and got a lot better frame rates than I was getting. Depending on the map, I get anywhere from 30-70 FPS, online, at 800x600 with detail and textures on low. I may be wrong, but shouldn't this card get higher frame rates than that? I tried different drivers to see if that made a difference, but didn't notice much change.

Any ideas why this may be, or what I can try to increase the FPS.

Thanks,

Tony

"The card is installed in a AGP 4x bus which makes me think that this could be the bottleneck"

No, even you run it at 8x AGP mode, it does makes very minor differences compared to 4x AGP...

http://support.dell.com/support/edo...

The real bottleneck is your 400mhz P4 2.6ghz and 768mb single channel DDR RAM... The last thing I want to mention in here is that if you haven't upgrade your power supply, then do it... You do not want another "fried 6600gt AGP with VIP 300 watt el-cheapo power supply by the famous indian guy in here"...

you know, you can make a reference to hardware without racial remarks personally it sounds like a personal attack. people on this forum are not on here to discuss origin, they are here for solutions,so please set racial remarks or racial slurs aside.& if you're referring to a user with the "indian comment" ...keep it to yourself.i come on this forum to help people, not to make racial slurs.

It's not a "racial slur". If you've been around the gaming forum for a while, you'd know exactly who & what TMP-Man is referring to.

I had a 6600GT, Ran BF2 at 1024x768 with settings at medium. It ran pretty well with little lag. When I upgraded to the 6800GT(both agp 8x)the performance literally doubled. I am now running an 8500 PCI-E and it is roughly about the same performance as my 6800gt on my old system.

So yes the 6600GT should be performing better than that. I would use only the 8X.XX drivers, after that nvidia drivers tend to suck. I could never seem to get my 6600, or 6800 to function on any of the 9X.XX drivers, or the newer 160.X drivers. When I did manage get my 6800 to work with the 9X.XX drivers, HL 1 had some graphic anomalies and I went back to 82.XX drivers, problem solved.

Thanks a lot guys. Yeah, I know it's time to build a new computer but I don't have the money at the moment. I was also thinking that the pathetic 400 MHz FSB could be the cause, but I assumed for gaming, it would be more in graphics card. I was using the 81.98 driver, then updated it to the 160.xx series. Didn't notice a difference. I will probably roll it back to the 81.98 because I have done some research and most people say that, that is the best driver for this card.

Thanks,

Tony
