I am playing Guild Wars and getting an fps of 10-12. I know pci is slow, but I think I should be doing better than that. I am running Windows XP pro SP2, Visiontek Radeon x1300 256mb pci gfx card, 760 mb ram (going to max out at 2 gb in the next week or two), 200w psu (need a bit more) I just started playing and just got thr gfx card. If I set the setting up all the way and set res to 1280x1024, I get 5-10. If I drop them and go to 1024x768, I get 12-15. I think these numbers should be a bit higher. Like I said, I need to get more ram and a better psu, but is there anything else I need to check? Thanks for the help. Please bear with me, I am trying to learn all this stuff as I go.

Did you have Full Scene Anti-Aliasing / Anstropic filtering on? If not, then the card itself is to blame with 64bit memory interface. Your best bet is try to run it at 1024x768 with medium setting and see if it still lags.

Even though GW is not one of those games
with really high system requirements,
nonetheless, you are expecting too much
from your PCI X1300 (it is a poor card by
any means) & your propensity for higher
resolutions amongst other setting will only
make things worse for you, in terms of
smooth gameplay & FPS.Dial down the settings!

I have the settings at the lowest with no anti-aliasing. I am running at 1024x768. My average fps is 7 and it uses 100% cpu when running. If I can't get better fps (almost unplayable), then they need to relist the system requirements.
This card has 256mb. 64b is the pci's max? I am a pc novice, but how can they list a 64mb vid card as minimum when a 256 (even though its pci) not be adequate? From the reviews I have read about this card, I should be able to get somewhere in the 20fps range. I am not looking to have a blazing sys., but I would like to play with less lag.
Thanks for the replies.

also, do I have any other gfx card options for pci? I have considered swapping mobo's, but I don't own an os and don't want to spend $100 to get one. I would if there was a way I could transfer my oem xp pro to another mobo.

You should have aimed for the pci version of the ATI X1300 with 128bit video memory instead of 64bit video memory. 128bit video memory is a nice improvement over 64bit video memory.
Here is one that uses 128bit video memory.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ OC 2.7ghz
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 7900GT
SATA II 2x 300gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0+1
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

You may wanna hold off on the RAM upgrade for the time being & if the 200W PSU isn't causing you any grief at the moment, you can put that on hold too. You need to think about what you're doing (or planning on doing) & consider other options. This is not a good system to try to convert into a gaming machine & isn't worth investing in for that purpose. It's fine for the internet & light gaming though.
The X1300 is as good as it get's when it comes to standard PCI video cards. But if you bought the 64-bit version rather than the 128-bit version, you certainly didn't do yourself a favor. Regardless, your CPU, RAM, & video all exceed the recommended requirements by a fair amount so you *should* be able to play that particular game reasonably well...providing you don't have the settings cranked up.
"Recommended System Specs:
- Windows XP/2000/ME/98
- Pentium III 1GHz or equivalent
- 512 MB RAM
- ATI Radeon 9000 or GeForce 4 Ti Series with 64MB of video memory"Do you have a lot of programs running in the background? Have you scanned for viruses & spyware? Have you defragged the HDD lately? Checked the drive for errors?

I am not sure if this is a 64 or 128. If its a 64, how much improvement can I expect with the other card? If I need to spend another $100, I may go another route.
I have all other programs off when I play. I run adaware and avg regularly. This pc has a fresh xp install as of 2 weeks ago, so I haven't defraged.
I am thinking of swapping motherboards. I have been researching it and it looks like there is a way to do this without reinstalling xp. I know this system is not a gaming pc, but I was hoping it would squeak by.

Wise words to live by.

lol, I thought I was "light gaming". GW doesn;t strike me as a game that requires a serious pc.
