Latest drivers for Grpahics Card?
Your Motherboard may be holding you back, as its only a 4X AGP.
The ram speed too will make a difference.

8X AGP motherboards DOES make a difference to your graphics card(besides what these benchmarks taken over 2years ago say). As Farcry is a demanding game, it will need a high AGP speed to run well.

1% difference..

Motherboard will hold back performance not because it has AGP 4x instead of 8x, but because it can only support PC100/PC133 Ram.
Upgrading the ram to Pc2100/2700/3200 makes a big difference in gaming.
Get a motherboard that supports Pc2100 above as well as Dual-Channel and you should get a new processor as well, perhaps a Athlon 64bit 3200+ or XP if you don't want to spend that much.

I have the 4.4 catalyst driver and yes I think I might need a new mobo, cpu, and DDR RAM as well :)...what would be your suggestion guys?? for cpu im going to get AMD 64 3000+. What would suggest for the RAM and Mobo? Ive been using asus mobo for a heck long time...so i think am gonna stick to that...but your inputs would be really appreciate it ..

The only reason there is no difference in 4X to 8X becuase the bandwidth is just not used. But as we're getting more graphically challenging games (e.g. DOOMIII/HL2+3/and Farcry) there WILL be a difference!

I wouldn't mind seeing the benchmarks for Farcry on 4X vs. 8X.
But I will agree with you, the games using less bandwidth won't see any difference at all.

Dunno man, Why is 3dmark03 nearly 200meg? I would have thought it would just calculate all your components and them add them up. The programers getting lazy eh

With those extra components you'd be very high indeed. You'd be 'one fast f**k' as well.

Well it seems like your 9800 Pro is overclocked. If you upgraded your system you should get about 5500-5800 stock and over 6000 overclocked.

Evans...

Please define medium settings. Don't expect to run Far Cry at 1600 X 1200, and get 60+ FPS. Keep in mind, frame rates may be lower in multiplayer games. How does it play in single player mode?

Your system specs seems ok to me, maybe faster RAM would help. Your 3dmark score seems normal.

Well i set it all at medium settings in the game's option (all at default settings)...ya know it's all the textures and stuff..except the water texture it's set @ high setting by default...and I played it @ 1024 by 768

single player : 25~40
multi player : 10~30

3Dmark 03 w/ OCed : 5400~54XX
non OCed : 4900~49XX

and it's the fastest RAM i could get (PC133) I could add one more stick of 512 RAM but PC133 RAMs tend be a lil expensive these days...

A new motherboard with an Athlon 64 3000 or 3200 will help a lot, on far cry I average 90fps at max detail @ 1024x768

Get an Athlon 64 with 512 or a gig of PC3200 and far cry will play at high details without any problems

At medium detail on my acer Ferrari 3000 laptop with Athlon XP 2500, 512MB DDR 333, Radeon 9200 128mb 60gb HDD I average 40fps

Think your memory speed is your biggest problem

Farcry runs pretty smooth sometimes too. I am currently using the demo(I've heard that the full version with the 1.1 patch boosts performance) and I get an average of 50-55 fps most of the time. Sometimes I get about 30 fps but barely. I only have 512mb RAM so Im thinking of getting another stick in a while or so.

Lol @ Stu, he doesn't give up does he? and I've yet to see him provide any proof that AGP 8x is significantly faster than 4x.

8X is faster than 4X obviously becuase its got a bigger bandwidth for data. When this bandwidth is used by games coming out you'll see the difference.
like if you played farcry on a 2X AGP, you'd be screwed because it the game need a lot more bandwidth.
Do you understand that? I agree OK! If the bandwidth is not used there won't be a difference.
Try and get a benchmark on Farcry i tell you. I cant see any. Thus no evidence for this topic

Stu. B, so are you saying that 3dmark03 doesn't use a lot of bandwith? If I ran 3dmark03 with AGP 4x, I would get about 50-100pts less than with AGP 8x.

Maybe in the future(2-3 years), games will start requiring much higher bandwith buses including PCI-Express.

Well if your not getting a considerable amount more points on 4X and 8X then it doesnt use all the bandwidth then.
Tell me the diff in fps when u use 4x and 8x in farcry? If its minimal than your right. fine, but I don't see any benchmarks on game with the most demanding engine, the Cry engine on farcry
