Subject: Leadtek 6600GT / I need new vidcardOS: WinXp ProfCPU/Ram: P4 2.4ghz/1gig DDR PC3200 |
Comment: I got 3 new games for xmas and I can't play either of them (Farcry, LOTR, COD). I was going to get a Radeon 9800 Pro, but my friend rich convinced me to go for a Nvidia 6600GT. Since I'm an ATi fanboy, I said hell no right away. But later on I changed my mind after looking at reviews/benchmarks and stuff. I only order from newegg, and rich said to go for the Leadtek 6600gt. Keep in mind I need this card to be AGP (not PCI Express). So yea, back to the Leadtek. I usually only buy products from newegg if they have good reviews on them by other customers, the leadtek card has NOTHING. I was thinking about getting the XFX but it's warranty is kinda poopy because it doesn't replace the card. How does the leadtek look to you guys, anyone have anything better? Thanks! http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-122-206&depa=1 thats the link to the leadtek card @ newegg

Reply: (edit)The 6600GT is a nice chipset, without a doubt. But I do not suggest Leadtek for the manufacturer. While I can't really talk about personal experience with the card, as I don't own one, but the fan on the leadtek card does look a bit...well pathetic lol. And i CAN say from personal experience that having a graphics card thats a fan of overheating (no pun intended ;)) is incredibly frustrating. If you were to ask me, I would say, get a 9800pro, but not any old 9800pro. The HIS version, it is super cooled and has very impressive performance. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/9700_to_9800_Series.html thats a link to the overclockers site, I assume you're american, but at least you can see what it is :D

Reply: (edit)I don't know what you're talking about here. Jeez, I play FarCry on a 3 year old system with a 9600se...same with COD. What makes you think the Leadtech 6800GT is any worse than any other 6800GT? Because of what you haven't read? Their warranty is poopy? What's poopy? Clue me in here. What am I missing? Skip

Reply: (edit)Poopy, as in the warranty doesn't cover replacement, only parts. Who said I have a 9600?! I have a radeon 9200 and it DOES NOT get the job done. So if the leadtek isn't a good choice, what 6600GT card would you guys recommend?

Reply: (edit)I know you dont have a 9600, what I was trying to say is, a 9600 will work just fine for you and it only costs $100 and it plays the latest games it's just a suggestion, if you have your heart set on a 6x00 series card then go for it, i just dont have any recomendations on one cuz im still usin my geforce3 and i can play half life 2 even if it's on 800x600 and medium detail and miniscule shadows im happy with my $10 purchase on ebay ;) common sense isn't very common

Reply: (edit)I was considering the 9600, but I really want a card that will last me for a few years to come. The 6600GT seems to be perfect for it, but I don't know much about Nvidia or the companies that modify their chipsets. All I want is an opinion on one of the types of 6600's. I was really looking at the XFX, but I dont know if having an overclocked card is worth it because it won't last as long as a card that isn't overclocked (so I'm told). So that brings me to the chaintech card, but it's sold out at many places. One of the places where it wasn't sold out was http://www.buyxg.com/ Has anyone had any experience with buyxg.com? Are they reliable? If not, just stick to some of my questions above about the cards :-p Thanks!

Reply: (edit)Ive had no difficulties w/the 9200SE OEM 128 mbytes on any of the mentioned games, but I do prefer Gainwards Gforce FX series.Awsome frames & very effiecient cooling, especially with the Golden Sample series,Maybe you should try upgrading memory/Cpu/MOBO first.

Reply: (edit)Yesterday I brought a new computer with K8 3000+ processor, leadtek 6600GT video card, twinMOS PC3200 2x256 DDRRAM, WD 160G SATA HDD and ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe MOBO. The system works great, running 3DMark2001 with 17756 points, 3DMark03 with 7883 points and 3DMark05 with 2835 points with default driver and speed for the video card 6.14 (i think) and no service pack 1 or 2 for windows. So I can personally garrenty u that Leadtek will be a decent 6600GT Jeff Ma
