I'm looking for a laptop, one for under a thousand dollars and will run warcraft 3 moderately well. I've been looking at the Dell laptops, and the ones that I like all seem to go over my budget, and since the only laptops I have ever come with are the Dells, I don't really know what else is on the market.

Aside from the Warcraft 3 requirement, this is basically going to be a school use laptop. Mostly compiling basic PASCAL, Java, and C# programs, which won't take much processing power at all.

Weight is not really a factor, as I don't mind sticking it in a backback.

Also internal wireless would be nice.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I was curios how cheap laptops had gotten, so a simple newegg search brought me this. Just a heads up though laptops aren't great for gaming and the x300 card ain't nothing to write home about but if this is mostly for school then it'll get the job done, I suppose. Do some more researching though, I'm not much of a laptop condesure.

Both of these dealers have good reputations for systems and warranties. Thier systems are slightly more customizable then Dell and not nearly as proprietary.

The 9600 video card one is a little out of my budget. I'm considering the notebooks from cyberpower system, althought it's a little more than I'd like to spend, I think it would be worth the extra 200.

I haven't been keeping up with hardware lately, can anyone tell me the difference between the AMD Turion, and the AMD Athlon?

Last thing: does anyone know how trustworthy the cyberpowersystems site is? I'm only used to buying online from large vendors such as Newegg and Amazon.

Thanks for all the input so far.

Overall not bad. You'll read some negative things, but you have to remember, most of the time the people who have bad experiences will take the time to review, not the good ones.

The Turion processor is the new mobile processor. It uses less power consumption which allows for more mobility. If you're going to keep this laptop plugged in all of the time you may be able to go for an AMD 64 processor.

I've been reading through the reviews on the site, and I'm somewhat scared to buy from them.

It seems as if their tech support is horrible, I wouldn't mind so much if I were buying a desktop computer, as I would be more able to fix it than a laptop.

Have you had any personal experience with this company?

No, I haven't. I have talked with a couple of people that have had no problem with that. But, I certainly understand your apprehension, considering I read those reviews too.

I believe they had an overall score of 7.0 though, which isn't too bad, and certainly leads me to believe that the good experiences outweigh the bad. Like I said above... usually it's the people who have bad experiences that write the reviews, not the good ones.

Check out ibuypower as well. I know that they had some good deals. You can probably find a review of their CS with the link above.

I'm still debating over whether or not just to wait for one of those Dell deals. Since it isn't that urgent, I think I'll wait on it.

Thank you for all your help.
