Got an chance to get a high spec laptop for little cash. Is the specs good for gaming, specfically the graphics card, not sure what mobility means in relation to the cards power?

I currently have a FX5600 Ultra in my desktop, how does it compare to that?

Thanks for any help.

Wow, that's a great laptop!

I'm currently using a mobility 9700 as well, and have been very impressed with it's performance. The 'mobility' name simply designates that it has been created specifically for laptop use. My processor is at 1.5ghz, and even at that point the 9700 has been able to pump out some great gaming. I've played Diablo II, MOH:AA, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Call of Duty on it.

About a year and a half ago I installed an MSI Geforce FX 5600 (came with a nice game bundle too) and used it for a long time. The 9700 really was ATI's breakout card in the high-end gaming arena, and I feel that it performs better than the 5600 fx. (played a lot of morrowind on the 5600, still a great card too!)

have fun :-)

Thanks for that folks, good website and happy that it seems to run the fairly up to date games.

This won't be my main gaming pc so won't bother me to much if I have to turn the graphics down on HL2 or something.

Will be mostly using it for web design, movie editing, anything not game related really.

Getting it on a deal with my work, £22 a month for 3 years. :)

similar to the below model http://www.nice-pc.co.uk/amilo_d_1840_3.20_1024_dvd_rw.html

but also comes with 3 years warranty and Office XP (basic version)

Gainward 256Mb 5600 Ultra
Gigabyte 7vaxp

HL2 was meant to play on older hardware reasonably well so it can scale to play on older computers and less powerful computers
and remember that at the time of it's engine's creation the 9800 series was the best card yet

common sense isn't very common

I have a Dell 9100

P4 3.4Ghz
2.0G DDR400 Ram
ATI 9800 256mb

Upgraded to 60GB 7200RPM drive.

Runs Doom3, CS:Source perfectly. And sure it will have no problem with HL2 This is my gaming system, the desktop has been pushed backed to Usenet :)
