Comment: I am getting non stop lag from my DSL for the last 6 months. Everytime i call the DSL company they come out, test my download speed and say its fine(which it is). The thing they dont test in the fact the speed goes from very high to very low and i have no way of showing them the lag.. Any idea? software? netstats/sondra wont show the data i need to make my point to the old man(60+) who repairs the DSL. All he talks is download speed. I would go to another company but they are the only deal in my area. Anyhelp?

Reply: (edit)update, its not a vid card or memory lag, its the DSL. I have two winXP PCs and both do the same lag. The stronger PC is a amdxp 2000 with a 128mb AGB video card.. And i mostly play games based off the Q3 system like RTCW/RTCW:ET, and until the lag i had normal lag here and there lag everyone gets. I can sign on to a server and get a 50 ping and watch my ping go to 500 to 999 back to 50. And thats when sitting still on Defence. Tweaking does not help, thats why i need a way to show the lag is real to the tech guy.

Reply: (edit)Have you checked for spywares, adwares, viruses? Did you disable Automatic Windows Update?

Reply: (edit)And oh yea, are you using any routers? If you do, try changing the routers and if that doesn't work, you could also try replacing your cat5 wire.

Reply: (edit)I turned off all updates a year ago. I have Adware. And I virus scan 1 time a week at microtrend web version. I thought the same things as you at first. I even turned off my firewall thinking it was slowing my gaming port, and I got my first virus of the last 3 years in 20 minutes without the firewall LOL And I still had the lag. At this point i plan on running the speed test at Toastnet and showing the DSL repairman(after christmas) the way the download speed changes in 30 seconds. These were my download rates, it goes as low as 200 k and back up to the normal 1000 k range, I would be happy with a solid middle speed. 1227* K 976* K 1080* K 642* K 999* K Thanks for the reply ESP ..Side note, have router but dont use it. I hooked it up and had it working but didnt like limit on my Gaming PC.

Reply: (edit)i had this problem 1 time when i had dsl. dont know if it will help u are not but this is what they had me do. when i had dsl. go to command prompt type in tracert then hit the space bar then put in a website try a site u know u are slower at . after it is done copy it and paste in e-mail to tech support. have u tryied speed test at dsl reports? www.dslreports.com go to our tools then speed test. they had me use this when i was having problems. another is www.testmy.net stay on them or they wont fix it im on cable now and i went though all of this with them . i was having bad uploads like half of what im paying for. i kept on them they got to where they would return calls . trying to just blow me off . i finally told them id give them 1 week to get the problem fixed before i called the regional office. a friend works for this company in a another town and told me about this.(company i have cable with gets points against a office if regional office steps in) was fixed in just a few days. good luck

Reply: (edit)Aehm... wich country you are? Name of the ISP? Than itīs more easy to roll up your problem and maybe then there are allready solutions or knowlegdebases for your problem, making fixing it easyer. try speedmeter.nl for pingtesting. Fastpath avaible for your dsl? me> DL normaly 192Kb/s :) ...but most servers are limited to 128Kb/s :(
