I am trying to play KOTOR 1 on my laptop but the computer was configured by HP to use about 128 MB of RAM somewhere else. I am supposed to have 512 and I understand that a couple MB are used by the computer for something else but 128 is ridiculous. Anyone know how I can reconfigure my computer to use less of the RAM? or how I can find out? Thank you for any help.

Check the BIOS for integrated video shared memory settings - you may be able to increase available system RAM by taking away from video

According to Amazon:

Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200M IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3D graphics. It has 128 MB of shared video RAM, which uses the notebook's main memory.

Still, RAM may not be an issue (256Mb is required for XP) according to the game requirements - more importantly:

Graphics Card: 32 MB OpenGL 1.4 compatible PCI or AGP 3D Hardware Accelerator with Hardware Transform and Lighting (T&L) Capability required

Laptops don't make good gaming machines unless you buy a "gaming laptop". As jboy pointed out, 128MB of your 512MB is being used for the integrated video. You can probably change the shared setting in the BIOS & return some of that memory back to the system, but I doubt it's gonna help.

Yeah, the impression I got was that's a pretty decent display - - for a laptop. While you probably don't need 128Mb devoted to video, RAM most likely isn't the culprit

I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter

Well I very recently came into a best buy gift card so I gave in and bought new RAM and installed it today so in the end I did not have to mess with the BIOS so thank you all very much for your help.
