I hav celeron d 2.8ghz, and512 ram. I am goin to add 512 mo ram and a 9600xt 256 card. Iz that good enough to run Sims 2, nfsu2, cs:s, half life 2, and america's army in 1024x768 resolution smoothly? If not should i get a 9800xt?

I'd be looking at a 9800 pro or XT if you want 1024x768 in Half Life 2. NVidia 6600GT should also be near that price range, which is a better card in all games but Half Life 2. The 6600GT should still give you near the performance of a 9800XT still in that game, too.
Unfortunately, the Celeron D is only 533Mhz bus. Don't be surprised if it's not perfectly smooth in all those games.

Stay away from the celeron. Try a P4 or AMD if possible.
Asus A8V Deluxe Rev.2
AMD Athlon 64 3800+/Newcastle
1 Gig Corsair PC3200
ATI Radeon 9800Pro/ATI Silencer 1Rev2
catalyst 5.6
Sound blaster audigy gamer
Antec430
Via 4.55 Drivers

This is a Celeron D, which is basically a p4, so it's not that bad.

I agree with that(heropsycho)
Celeron D's are now modified when it comes to its L2 cache(256k) and FSB(533). So, never underestimate Celeron D. You can really play @ 1024 by 768 high end games for now with that specs...Coz i have a Celeron D 2.4, 512mb DDR333 and a Geforce FX 5500 256mb 128 bit...I can rum Battle for Middle Earth at Ultra High setting @ 1024 by 768.
Run Sims 2 @ High Details...all of the components should help each other not only the CPU..But only I can run Battlefield 2 @ Medium Setting with a slow loading becoz of my Ram, i hve to upgrad it to 2x512mb DDR333.
But all of my games runs smoothly except Battlefield 2..coz it requires Geforce FX 5700 and up and a minimum of 512 mb ram.Hope this helps......

"You can really play @ 1024 by 768 high end games for now with that specs..."
LOL...I said Celeron D's are not *that* bad; I didn't say they were that good either.
You said so yourself that you can't play BF2 in high res, and Battle for Middle Earth and Sims 2 aren't high end gaming, either. Throw on the FEAR demo, and watch your system go to its knees.
"Hail Celeron D!"
No thanks. $88 for a 2.8GHz Celeron D; $89 for a Sempron Socket 754 3000+. Absolutely no contest, the Sempron with its integrated memory controller built in the CPU would blow the barn doors off that Celeron D.
Celeron D's aren't ultra crappy like their predecessors, but it is still inferior in price/performance to AMD's price competitive counterpart.

you are asking us to hail AMD Sempron instead?
Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours.

Personally, I'd get an Athlon 64 Venice for the money, but I was only illustrating the Socket 754 variant Semprons are the same price and kick the snot out of Celeron D's.

i dont beleive i saw hero suggest that anybody hail AMD Semperon, but i most certainly would hail a AMD semperon over a cerleron D any day of the week

Thanks for pointing out he put words in my mouth. :-)
