Okay, i have bought battlefield 2142 and i have installed it and everything! then i click on the desktop icon and it comes up with a black page and returns back to the desktop page! it then comes up with system error. im pretty sure that it is becuase i have windows vista and it is supposed to be for windows XP... i think. can u help!!!

You have to make sure this game is compatible with Vista. If it's an older XP game and the manufacturer does not specifically state Vista, contact them and make sure the game will work with that OS. If it's a new game you purchased without realising take it back and ask them if they have a vista version of the game. Strange as most recent games would tell you if they were vista compatible on the box.
It's tough to help when you don't bother to list your system specs. Does your computer at least meet the minimum hardware requirements? Try testing it with this: Can You Run It?

Battle field 2 / 2142 black screen then CTD errors typically means you graphic hardware does not support the game. But since i don't know your system specs I can't say.
