Yup, but it depends on which kind of games you want to play on.

You may need some more ram, another stick of 256mb.
Your CPU is fine
Your Gfx card is fine as long as you have a motherboard that has 8X AGP. You may have a 4X motherboard (depending on the age of the Motehrboard) which will not let ur gfx card perform to its fullest.

That system is good, but not great. Like what evans said, its not good enough for hi-end games. Processor may also not be fast enough for hi-end games, but thats something you shouldn't really worry about.

The 5200 will play ALL recent games at decent frame-rates, just coz he can't max out the details doesn't mean he can't play 'em, and still have them lookin' good.

Get away from the fixation that spangly DX9 effects are everything, coz they aint.

I have a GeForce 4 MX440, and I play Far Cry, Battlefield Vietnam, UT2004, I can even run the Doom 3 beta at 30 FPS!!!

Your PC will do you proud mate, trust me. Although, as someone suggested, another 256 MB of RAM would be great, but not essential.

If you can run games at decent fps then just keep it that way. If you don't have a lot of money follow Stu.B's advice and get a 256mb stick of ram.

But don't expect your Fx5200 to run at 30fps. If Hooner's MX can run Doom III at 30 fps, then Im predicting a Fx5200 with PS 2.0 would run much slower. And like they all say, Fx5200's are more like a Geforce 2 with Dx9 Support, which means it is *slower* than Hooners MX.

I don't know about you Hooner but 30fps isn't *decent* enough for me, more like 40-50fps will do =P

I never said 30 FPS was enough for me, but it's damn impressive!! ;-)

Is it not possible to disable pixel shading on the FX cards?

If I run 3dmark01 with AGP 4x, I would get a score of 14360

If I run 3dmark01 with AGP 8x, I would get a score of 14400

So there is barely any difference between these two. This is because video cards these days do not use that much bandwith. But say if you upgrade from PCI to AGP 2x, that would make a big difference because PCI uses a 33-bit bus while AGP 2x uses a 66-bit with higher bandwith etc.

Whoa, back to Daren...

That system should run any current games. But you should consider a better system if your budget allows. Sure, you're saving a few hundred dollars now, but buying better this time could be the difference between upgrading next year or in three years.

I bought nearly-high-end four years ago, and only now are there games I can't run smoothly. People who skimped four years ago and bought 'bargain' 400-500mhz machines had to upgrade two years ago.

The primary things to consider are the fsb (front-side-bus) rating of the motherboard, and the processor speed. The other components are easy to upgrade.

Just something to consider.
Happy shopping,
-Bob

Hooner, did you read the text or just look at the pictures? Here's a quote:

"You can see in the charts that there's actually quite a bit of advantage with AGP8X especially at lower resolutions. While the difference is not a lot, it is however pretty encouraging at this point as what we're testing here is only a Xabre400. You can definitely expect better gain in performance with faster GPUs such as the next generation of GeForce or ATI's upcoming RADEON 9700."

By the way, 30 fps sucks...

Bob, please refer to UnR3aL's post. And I never said 30 FPS was great, I was simply impressed that an MX440 could produce such frame-rates.

Stu, don't get your knickers in a twist mate, calling people spastics is offensive and childish.

Go to Google and look up more benchmarks, there are plenty out there.
