I have been thinking about building a custom gaming PC for a while, I have been looking at this deal on ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-ATHLON-64-6...
I want to get a barebones kit and build it myself, question is, is this a good deal? it seems like it, you can select if you want certain upgrades on the page, is there a better motherboard on there than the biostar thats default? Should i get an SLI motherboard? I dont want to go much over the current price of 280, but will if necessary. so any advise is greatly appreatiated.

I'm at work & eBay is blocked. Can you post the specs? Why are you buying from eBay anyway?
"And that's the fishing line, because Sharkboy said so!"

Here are the specs You can select what you want to upgrade, different case, fans, memory, motherboard. I didnt know if it was worth getting a better motherboard, maybe with SLi or not. Just with these specs its $270.
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ Dual Core Socket AM2 CPUCPU Fan: AMD 64 Heavy Duty Cooling Fan With Heat Sink
Motherboard: Biostar NF520-A2 nForce 520 (up to 6400+ CPU support)
Memory: not included (supports up to 8GB DDR2 533/677/800 memory)
PCI Express: 16xPCI Express slot
IDE/SATS: Supports two SATA/SATA2 and 2 IDE drives
PCI slots: 3 PCI and 16x PCI Express slots
USB: 6 USB 2.0 ports ( 4 back and 2 front ports)
Sound: AC 97 6 channel 5.1 Full duplex sound (onboard)Network: 10/100 RJ45 onboard network (Ethernet, cable or DSL)
Ports: 1 serial, 1 parallel, 1 microphone jack
Case: Black Neon Mid Tower with font USB, sound and mic jacks - window and tem display
Power Supply: 400W ATX power supply
Case Bays: 4 external 5.25", 1 external 3.5" , 6 internal 3.5" bays
Case Fan: Two multicolor LED 80MM fans
Software: All driver disks and manuals are included.
System Condition:
All system components are brand new. System is completely assembled and tested.
*This is not a complete system. Some parts such as (hard drive, video card, memory, etc.) need to be added.

You didn't include the shipping charge. You'd be paying $305 for a case w/PSU, motherboard & CPU w/HSF. Don't you think you could do as good or better if you bought the parts individually?
The 6000+ (3.0GHz) is a power hungry monster @ 125W. You could get a 65W 5000+ (2.6GHz) & overclock it to 3.0GHz+.
Biostar's been putting out some good boards lately, but the nForce 520 is at the lower end of the nForce 500 series. A board based on the 570 Ultra or 570 SLi chipset would be a better choice....you don't have to use the SLi feature. AMD's been putting out some decent chipsets too.
Then there's the case. I don't see anything listed about the PSU other than it's 400W...more than likely, it's generic crap.

OMG no dont do this...
they screw you!
try newegg.com or something elseremember, if the people on ebay bought it from somewhere, they are looking for a profit!
buy it from the place where they bought it!8R4ND0N
