I have an X1600 Pro ATI( Sucks, does not support 3d hardware acceleration. cannot play 3d games at all). If i upgrade to FX5200, can i at least play 3d games in 640x480?

Going from a x1600pro to geforce fx5200 will be a huge downgrade... Have you even try to install the drivers properly before try to play your 3D games??

LOL...that's hilarious!

Did you connect the additional 4-pin power plug to the card? And as TMP-Man asked, did you install the ATI drivers?

Uhh, I assure you, it supports 3D hardware acceleration.

Something is definitely wrong here. LOL...

What socket does it use? AGP or PCIe?

Make sure everything is connected properly, re-read the instruction manual to make sure that you aren't missing a power plug-in [if you are but don't have the necessary wires then it's time for a new power supply] and finally download the latest drivers.

I like chicken.

X1600 is even faster than nvidia 5900. Its like changing Ferrari to bicycle. Please consider looking back at your setup etc.

Why don't people read before doing things. They don't make manuals for nothing.

FX5200 is what i can afford right now. i saw reviews that it can play Half-life 2 at low settings! now that's great! half-life 2 and other 3d games cannot even start on X1600. Tried reinstalling latest ATI catalyst drivers, DirectX 9.0C and windows. nope, still does not help.

The FX5200 is a low end piece of crap but the X1600Pro is a reasonably good card. You obviously don't have it setup properly & my guess is you didn't connect one of the 4-pin HDD power plugs to the back end of the card.

How about I trade you a brand new fx5200 for your x1600 pro and I pay for all the shipping cost? If I'd know such hilarous thing happen, then I would not even bother to upgrade from fx5200 all the way to 7600gt for $125. Rather simply trade it for your x1600pro for a small shipping cost. I'm sure everyone here own a AGP system will do the trade even they have to pay for shipping...

Have a look at following chart. The X1600Pro run HL2: Episode one at 48 FPS. The worst card on the list is the 6200TC which runs it at 20 FPS. I guarantee you that the FX5200 is even worse than the 6200TC.

It would be nice if the OP actually goes into the details of what does happen when he tries to play what games in particular.

I don't seem to grasp what "cannot play 3d games at all" implies - blank screen, error messages, lockups :-(

This is funny. This guy wants to go backwards in technology for improved 3d preformance when infact that will make it even wors if not a lot worse. That would be like like going from a Core 2 Duo E6700 to a Pentium 4 2.8ghz.

Equating the FX5200 to a Pentium 4 2.8GHz is either being nice to the FX5200 or insulting the P4. :-)

It was a decent card for its day, but now the only thing it is good for is regular computing and watching DVD movies on.
