is am3 compatibile with windows 98 games

Specs: Windows 7 32-bit, AMD x4 970/ 4GB DDR3 ram
I recently upgraded my processor, memory and motherboard from

AMD Athlon 6000+ on an Nvidia 590 chipset motherboard using DDR2 memory

AMD Phenom II X4 970 on an Asus Crosshair formular IV using DDR3 memory

the operating system, graphics card and disks are unchanged but what I am finding is that older games that used to work very well on the old set up now crash. Is there some change in the new set up that makes running older software more difficult?

Are you running the games in Win98 compatibility mode?

Yes, and loaded them by setting the setup program to use windows 98 compatibility as well. Prior to the hardware upgrade this had worked OK allowing me to use my older games.

Older games have issues with dual and quad core cpu's, open a game minimize it the open task manager locate the game process right click it and choose a single core(by unticking other cores).
