Comment: Will an ASUS geforce2 mx 400 pro improve my graphic over my existing onboard Intel extreme graphics (1st version)? I was given this ASUS card and want to know if it will help things before i install it. I am a relaxed gamer, i play Call of Duty, the onboard card works okay for this, textures are poor. thanks

Reply: (edit)While the GF2 isn't a great card, I'd say it's better than onboard...especially if it's an AGP card with 64mb RAM. Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @8x210mhz 512mb PC3200 Ti4200/8X 128mb WDC 60GB

Reply: (edit)I found this interesting website... http://www.digit-life.com/articles/i845gp4m266sis650intvga/ that compares the 845G chipset, on Dell 2400's to Geforce graphics cards. It seems to me that the MX400 is a bit better than the onboard card. Am i undrstanding the results okay?

Reply: (edit)I have to admit, I was never a big fan of the Geforce 2 MX series, after I upgraded from a TNT 2 and it still didn't run Serious Sam all that well. If CoD runs okay, then i'd hold off on installing the new card, the improvements are likely to be minimal.

Reply: (edit)One of the disadvantages of onboard graphics is that it uses system RAM. I don't know what your current shared RAM setting is (8, 16, 32, 64mb), but installing a video card will allow you to free up this shared RAM for system use. So you'll get a double advantage of more useable RAM for your system, plus somewhat better graphics Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @8x210mhz 512mb PC3200 Ti4200/8X 128mb WDC 60GB
