Comment:
I recently scouted around tiger direct and saw a very cheap intel celeron 3.33Ghz. Bus speed was low however-533Mhz.

Would this be a good processor to use for gaming? If not, please recommend something else that would be good at a reasonable price.

Am I smart? How the hell am I supposed to know and if you were smart you wouldn't be asking such stupid questions. -Mort from Trip to Appleblossom City.

I would not recommend the Celeron D for gaming, even though its price & overclock prowess is very tempting, the cache is kicker.

Do you already have a board and just looking for a CPU or are you building one from the scratch?

They are OK if you want to overclock, but are about the same as the Athlon XPs i.e. it will perform about the same as a 3200XP so it's not a great call for gaming

You'd be better off with a Sempron 64, AMD's low cost competitor against the Celeron line. But to be honest, you can get an Athlon 64 3000 Venice for a shade over $100, so that's what I'd recommend.

Celeron D 356 @ 5ghz air cooled...

Although they mistype it to Pentium D 355, but the CPU-Z screen shot is 5Ghz Celeron D 356...

I'm just building up my comp for next gen. gaming.

So, what I'm doing is just getting a new processor, mobo/w PCIe slots and a new vid card. I already got my LCD monitor =D.

I'm thinking of getting an ATI RADEON X1900 XT. I'm a big fan of their vid cards. I found a very cheap mobo at TigerDirect. A MachViper /w PCIe slots.

I might consider getting that Athlon 64, hero. What's the speed of the CPU? Cause I'd probably need a new cooler.

Let me get this straight. You're gonna put that much money in a video card, and install it on the crapalicious cheapo motherboard?

I think your priorities are skewed.

If you're going with an Athlon 64, get a reputable brand motherboard with an Nforce4 Ultra chipset. DFI makes the best, but there are other solid brands such as MSI and Gigabyte.

I see very little reason to couple an X1900XT with an Athlon 64 3000. Look instead at either a faster CPU such as the Athlon 64 3700 with 1M cache, or don't get that high end of a video card.

I was thinking more of an NVidia 7600GT or 7800GT.

I'm not willing to spend over 200$. I'm just rebuilding my current PC so my brother can use it.

I found an XFX Geforce 6800 Xtreme with 256 memory. It also has SLI and PCIe slots. What do you think?

I would need a new mobo for the PCIe slots in the new gaming cards. Any good mobos out there? Perhaps good ones from Asus or something?

*EDIT* I meant not willing to spend over $200 for just a video card. Just so you won't think I'm a lowlife slob who doesn't have a job. =P
