You must love this one game so much that you are willing to downgrade your system all the way back Windows 95 just so you can play it.

Seems kinda stupid for one game. Are you 100% certain that it can't be made to run under WinME?

If you insist on going with Win95, the 1st thing you're gonna have to do is format the hard drive. This means you will lose everything, so backup what you don't wanna lose. You'll probably wanna assemble all the Win95 compatible drivers & burn them to a CD before you wipe the drive too. You'll need a Win95 boot floppy plus the Win95 CD (95 CDs are not bootable).

Hopefully you're familiar with basic DOS? Boot off the floppy, choose "with CD-ROM support"...then at the A:\> prompt, change to the letter for the CD-ROM drive...then at the X:\> prompt, type SETUP & hit the ENTER key

** X = letter used for the CD-ROM

Install Win98SE. It's much better than ME, and will run any 95 game.

Here's my guess.

The reason Win ME won't run games written "only" for 95 is that Micro$oft hid Real Mode in Win ME, probably to make it seem more like Win 2K. But the absense of real mode in ME actually causes problems on some older DOS and Win9X apps.

First try to see if you can run the game on your current system to avoid all the extra work.

Also, instead of what the other guys suggest, I have a different solution:

1.
Remove your current Hard disk from your box. This way you know you wont harm anything on there (assuming you actually care about its contents).

2.
purchase a small hard drive, like 5Gigs on ebay or whatever, just small and cheap, but large enough to install win95.

3.
Put your new disk into the computer with proper jumper cable settings (master or cable-select).

4.
Partition the disk. (use fdisk)

5.
Format it. (format c:)

6.
Install win95.

7.
Play game.

8.
Enjoy.

*Also note, you might be able to install win95 on your current disk on a different partion (and not harm your current files), but be aware, I am not familiar with the rules of winME. Not sure if you can install another OS after you installed winME. With winXP, I know "dual installs" must be done prior to installing winXP. So there's one more option to look into.
