Hi, I have a retail copy of UT2004, and I am trying to run a dedicated server, but I just found out that I need to install this special CD key for my server in order for it to be listed in the server browser, so I got the CD key from Epic Games, but now I have no idea on how to install it. Here is the E-mail that I got from Epic:
Thank you for requesting a UT2004 server CD key. Your server CD key is
SRVER-ZKAPP-ZMNET-3Q474
For Windows servers, save the attached UT2004_Server_CD_Key.reg and upload it to your dedicated server. Once it's there, double-click it to install it in the Windows registry. You can also install it by hand by making a new String registry entry called CDKey in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004
Warning: do not double-click this .reg file on a Windows computer which already has a retail UT2004 installation - it will overwrite your retail CD key with the server-only one.
If this occurs, you will need to reinstall your copy of UT2004 from your original CDs.
For Linux and MacOS X servers, save the attached "cdkey" file and place it in your System directory. This file MUST be named "cdkey" - some email programs may suggest you save the file as cdkey.dat or some other name.

Upload it to my server?! How in the !@#$ do I do that?
BTW, I have a retail copy of UT2004 on Windows, and it says that if you have a retail copy that you should not double-click it, but the install instructions says I have to!
Everything is always funny at first, until someone gets hurt, and then it's just hilarious!

What it means, is put that file UT2004_Server_CD_Key.reg on whatever computer you are running the server on, then double-click it. If you ahve the game itself installed yoiu will need to reinstall it.
However, if you are comfortable working in regedit, you can add the registry entry manually by going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004 , adding a new STRING value called CDKey, and giving it the value of your server key, SRVER-ZKAPP-ZMNET-3Q474.
If you are not comfortable working in the registry, then just run the .reg file and reinstall UT2004.hope that clears it up for you
if it ain't broke... it doesn't have enough features yet

Jesus! I tried to install it by hand, but It wouldn't let me because there is already a string called CDKey that has the CD key for my copy of UT2004! If I delete it I won't be able to start UT2004, OR if not that I won't be able to join any other servers! Will I? AHHHHHH thih is sooooooooooo annoying! How do all those other people run servers?!
Everything is always funny at first, until someone gets hurt, and then it's just hilarious!
