I have tried to play command and conquer generals zero hour that I borrowed from my friend.

When I start the game the monitor says "input signal out of range"

How can I fix this?

Type DXDIAG in the run bar then go to the last tab -> override and select 60Hz (or whatever your monitor can do)

I did this.

It still does it.
It also does it on the Da Vinci code game I just bought this morning.

I have a 17" LCD monitor that is set at 1280 x 1024. It was already set at 60hz in my display settings.

Anymore suggestions?

Yes, you can change the refresh rate of each resolution in display settings -> advanced -> nvidia/Ati tab. Select the colour-depth and resolution and make sure they are all set to 60Hz. If it still happens then I'm not sure what is over-riding the refresh-rate... making sure you have the correct drivers installed for your monitor never hurts either.

Ok I am not sure where that is for what you are asking me to change. I have the latest nvidia drivers with the classic control panel. I cannot find an area to change the 60hz refresh for every resolution.

Here is a screenshot of the control panel.

I have the latest drivers for my monitor. I downloaded them because of a previous unresolved problem that I posted on here...

Open up Options.ini in My Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data\ and change the line that says:

Resolution = 1280 * 960 or whatever you currently have the resolution set at - to Resolution = 1280 * 1024

Also make sure you are using the correct drivers for the monitor & not just relying on the native drivers supplied by Windows as they are usually generic.

This did not do a thing.
There was no set resolution as I haven't been able to play the game.
So I couldn't change anything.
I added it though and still this did not fix it.
Thanks for trying.
And yes, they are the manufacturers ones.
I downloaded them from the AG Neovo website.

Hmm, you're looking at the correct tab in the DisplayProperties screen. Ok, is this the only monitor you have ever used on this PC? Have you used a CRT / projectors / TV anything, as these could have left config settings on your PC that are throwing off the res.
Your monitor will do 75Hz, have you tried setting everything to 75?

I have looked on many forums now and found that the fault here is the game is trying to use a refresh rate that my monitor cannot display.

The max my monitor can display is 72hz.
I just cannot find a way to set the game to run in 60hz/70hz/72hz.

I have not used any other monitor on this computer.

Ok, just try this for me, else actually listen to HyperPsyco in your last post and use NVCleaner

http://downloads.guru3d.com/downloa...

Goto DxDiag again and run the Test DirectDraw and Test Direct3D settings on the Display tab, does your monitor still have issues?

Ok I did the directx tests

I got the input signal out of range for this; Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 32 (User verification of Direct3D rendering): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)

I uninstalled the nvidia drivers.
Ran NVCleaner (for it to throw up a list of errors saying registry entry does not exist)
Rebooted and then downloaded and installed the Nvidia drivers again.
Now it works fine.

Thank you for the help...
