Hi again Gamers,
Ive just started playing Dues EX online.(woo hoo)..im new at gaming.
Havent read all the instructions for playing online yet (im a guy...lol),but so far it all seems pretty straight forward.
What ive noticed is when i connect i get a list of servers/games to join, and then there is a colum under ping..whitch im led to belive is the speed at whitch my computer is talking to the server...oviousely im thinking the lower the ping the beter the reaction speeed during the game..
Today while i was playing another player asked me what was my "ping".
is there a way to check this out while you are playing??....or would he have just ment waht it said in the colum before i joined..
What is a good "ping"?
Most of the games are from about 250 to about 400 or 500.(Im In Australia, on DSL 256).
Thanx again guys an gurls...
Anythink else you can let me know about it is mutch appreciated too, of course.

1. If you're on Australian, play on Australiasian servers. This will lessen your ping.
2. Think about it like this, if you're on the phone to one of your friends who's go on holiday to America, you get a lag dont you?
3. Bringing up the scoresheet/ a command on on Deus Ex should bring you latency (ping) up.A respectable ping is about 50 and below. 100-50 is playable though
GeForce FX5200 128Mb
AMD Barton 2800
Asus A7N8X E-Deluxe
AERO 7 LITE CPU fan
512 DDRAM PC2700

Ok, that sounds very logical....
But Sorry for sounding like a "noob"..How do I find Which Servers are Australian??
I know I was on A USA server yesterday ..but only because two players were talking about a grid iron game..well i assumed that it was grid iron and a USA server...LOL:)):)):))
Your help is realy appreciated..
Thanks in advance once again guys ang gurls...Thanks Stu.B

- The speed of light is 300,000 km/s.
- Under TCP/IP gaming, the client will not update until the command sent to the server replies back with an ACK, and vice-versa
The *minimum round trip* a packet from a PC in Sydney Australia to a game server in, say, New York City is 22,930km.
- even moving at the speed of light, there's a built-in lag of 22930/300000 ~76ms.
- each router along the way adds 1-10ms lag *each way*. The packet will go through 10-15 routers to and then back from NYC.
- we're assuming ideal conditions.
If my PC is in an apartment 2 blocks from Central Park, you're toast. And I'm not even very good at the game.
There are traceroute programs that will graphically display the route your packets take to and from a given server. Just search for "traceroute graphic display" in Google. That's how a friend of mine in Australia found out that the game he was playing, that was hosted in Melbourne, was routing its packets through Chicago. The NetAdmin had NO IDEA how that happened. >:)

Well yer you should try to play on servers in Australia but if you cant find any look for ones close to us (im in aus to) if you have 256k then your ping should only be 50 to 100 but it really depends on what game you are playing. As some games dont have as good as packet sending as others. By the way if you are new to gaming you should try out the game "Counter Strike" its the most played online game ever and you shouldnt have any problems finding an Australian Server once you have the game and a CD-Key
hey guys!! WTF do i write here
