Hey everyone...

Sorry to bother ya but i've not long bought a new computer, just a cheapy cause my old one broke.

Anyways so had it a couple of months or so and i've noticed for some reason all my games are dark when in full screen + also some video out of fullscreen, could this be my monitor? it is kinda old i just bought the base unit.

So i tried downloading catalyst or something for my graphics card which is ATI Radeon x600 series which buggered up the pc so i reformatted >_<"

I believe it's an all-in-wonder? to put it shortly as i can... The screen is a lil dark but that could be monitor problems being old n' all, there's a line in fullscreen games in the center of my game like it appears as if the card cant handle it when it can or is supposed to?

>_<" ugh i dunno sorry for ranting but if anyone can help please do, graphical fault line thingy in fullscreen on 3d games, dark colours on video and games.

Thanks and sorry for the waffle..

Fade. >_<"

You didn't list ANY of your hardware & you don't even seem to know what video card you have? If this is a new machine, why would you format the drive to correct a video problem? List your complete system specs & if this is a brand new system, you probably voided the warranty.

When you downloaded the "catalyst or something", did you follow the instructions? The 1st thing you needed to do was download & install Microsoft .NET or confirm that it's already installed...this is a requirement for the Catalyst Control Panel & MUST be installed BEFORE the Catalyst drivers. Then the old ATI drivers should have been completely removed using the Catalyst Uninstaller, THEN the new drivers can be installed. Catalyst v6.6 was just released a few days ago.

Since you have ATI card, there should be an option called "colors" and you can adjust the "Gamma" "Contrast" and "Brightness"... Look for those in your ATI catalyse. It could be you accidently change the setting and cause that to happen...

Hmm well that was a nice Welcome to the Computing.net Community!!

Specs..
*Packard Bell
*WinXP Home SP2
*P4 Intel 2.8ghz Dual Pro
*2mb l2 cache
*800fsb
*1gig Ram
*120gig HD
*ATI Radeon X600 Series 256mb pci-e (all-in-wonder)

Guess that's all you need to know?

Formatted 'cause it wouldn't boot back up properly (used the recovery system) and no didn't void the warranty :) oh and yes .net was installed before but anyways...

Yeah i have already done the gamma control etc but it still appears dark on windowed video + some fullscreen games even when adjusted and yeah i've changed both full and not settings. (maybe tubes on the monitor are goin'!?)

Main problem is the line through the middle of games usually on the more demanding ones even though it should be fine for my card.

So yup i don't understand video cards well dunno why i guess cause i've never bothered with games etc, but now i am and just wanna get everything workin well :)

As for new catalyst is that what i would need or something else? because i went to the ati site and seen Ati Multimedia Center, Catalyst 6.6 and Hydravision.

Anyways time for bed, Thanks...

Fade.

You're welcome - consider it a wake up call - it's better if you try and be informative rather than 'ranting'

You might consider asking yourself: "what information might be necessary to provide in order to properly describe and possibly rectify this problem?"

... or you could just babble

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

Lol! I wasn't actually sure what to post as i'm a new user here, then came back wrote another with specs i thought needed etc but anyways...

Nevermind i would rather sort the problem out myself just thought it would be easier if somebody here has seen the problem before, came here for some help/tips not for rudeness :)

So yeah to quote "consider it a wake up call" and maybe try to treat new users here a little better, perhaps try to be informative and friendly! Or just continue your way it's great too! ;)

Thanks to tmp-man who actually tried to help :D
Welcome to delete my posts i'll fix it myself..

"I wasn't actually sure what to post as i'm a new user here..."

There are plenty of posts here to look at to get an idea of what to provide for info before you post. Don't make it out like there wasn't anyway to know before you posted. You took the easy way out and posted with vague details.

Take a look around before posting, or deal with being criticized when you don't provide the info you should have.

We like to help, but it's frustrating to us when people repeatedly (not you alone, but many people) don't provide what they should have and expect us to work Voodoo magic or something.

"Nevermind i would rather sort the problem out myself"

And we'd rather not help people who cannot give accurate information as to what exactly they did already, their hardware specs, etc. and then complain they weren't treated with kid gloves. Nothing personal here...

"..perhaps try to be informative and friendly!"

For the record, Jam was very informative. He told you how the Catalysts should have been installed, that reformatting the hard drive was a bad choice, and you should provide more info when posting. He didn't call you any derogatory names either. You can say, "gee thanks, I did all that." But you didn't tell us that up front, and there's no way we could have guessed you did it right when you refer to the drivers as "catalyst or something".

Perhaps you should provide more accurate info and grow thicker skin. The forum regulars here are very knowledgeable and helpful, and are generally polite and nice, but we're not gonna kiss your butt. If you choose not to leverage our knowledge, don't let the door hit your butt on the way out.
