OS: Windows XP
CPU/Ram: 3.0 GHZ INTEL
Model/Manufacturer: DELL
Comment:
Hi I wanted to upgrade my computer but I don't know what is the best way.

I have a 305 Watt PSU
ATI RADEON x600se
1.5 mb RAM 533mhz

I want to be able to play games like hitman 2: blood money at good frame rates. I have the game now and it plays from low to medium settings and stutters sometimes.

I was thinking just buying a geforce 6600. THX

It depends. I'm trying not to buy PSU but I know I will have to. Because, I also wanted to play games like splinter cell double agent. I can spend around under 100.

You're gonna be very disappointed if you get a 6600.

Is it because it needs a 350W PSU even though they say 300W is sufficient? I don't mind buying PSU and video card as long as its under 100. But I assume then a crappy PSU will die sooner or later.

No, it's because the 6600 is a crappy card. Look where it rates on this chart:

What about the 8400gs? Ebay also has a 420W power supply for 45...... List doesn't have 8400gs or at least I can't find it.

Also the 8400gs needs a minimum of 300watt PSU. So would 305 be sufficient?

Thx

For 100 dollars the chances of sufficiently upgrading you system to play splinter cell is a very remote possibility. Yes you do need a better psu to handle your graphics card, and a good graphics card will set you back over 100 dollars.
