How to tell What Version AGP Slot

Im buying a mother board and the Agp slot says its 8x/4x. how can u tell what version the AGP slot is? eg. sometimes graphics cards require 3.0 Agp slots.

If you get 4x/8x, itll usually be backwards compatible.

Not that AGP 3.0 is backwards really, but to correct damasta, 4x/8x slots may not be compatible with 1x/2x graphics cards.
