Not a bad list for a $1000.00 budget...

I don't like the Uber Chakra case. It doesn't appeal to me personally, but it does to some ... as the reviews indicate. I also typically buy items like that locally, but if I was buying a case online, I could see myself getting something like the Smilodon (Dirk-Tooth) case despite my somewhat disdain for RAIDMAX!

The other thing is the OS. I don't see myself forking over $140.00 for Windows XP, definitely not at this time. I'd rather give Newegg $100 for the OEM 64-Bit Vista Home Premium than XP ... sorry :-(

The only other comment would have to be about the motherboard - why not get a P45 chipset based?

I know but who buys3gigs of ram so i get 4 gigs of ram. and another thing i don't like vista so thats why i won't get it. Plus Widows 7 should be coming out in the next year or so. And i can wait Xp is probably the best OS microsoft has all they need to do is allow it to utilize DX10.1 and have it recognize the 4gigs of ram and it would be even amazinger.

But for some reason the 64-bit XP is horrible idk why it doesn't make since to me but everyone says the 64-Bit XP is bad so i will get Xp and wait for Windows 7 i am thinking if Windows relieses a 4th SP they might enable DX10 and i am not sure about the 4gig part i am not sure if that would even be possible considering that getting those 2 things changed in a OS it might take a large file size so w/e But i personally like XP Vista just doesn't appeal to me that much and plus the drivers for Vista aren't as good as XP's so i will get better FPS in Xp than vista unless they release amazing drivers. Plus the only reason XP is done is because there aren't any more possible keys to make so that's why it's out of production.

"But for some reason the 64-bit XP is horrible"

I've heard that too but I've never tried it so I don't know for sure....I was just throwing it out there as an option.

"i am thinking if Windows relieses a 4th SP they might enable DX10 and i am not sure about the 4gig part"

There will no SP4 or DX10 support for XP. And the 4GB memory limit is a 32-bit OS limitation, not a Windows limitation.

"the only reason XP is done is because there aren't any more possible keys to make so that's why it's out of production"

That's freakin ridiculous.

Know seriously Windows ran out of XP serials to make i have already asked many people. People that kno what they are talking about people who work with Windows. So that is what they told me and they havent been wrong yet so yeah. Anyways thouse were just wishes or theories of what windows should do. But i would rather have no DX 10 and non recognized 4gigs than vista. Vista was probably one of the worst mistakes Windows could of made.

Personally I don't like vista, even though they are said to be promising in the future. I think xp is more convenient.

"seriously Windows ran out of XP serials"

How can you even consider that as a legit possibility? Do you realize the astronomical number of 25-character serials that can be created by using a combination of numbers & letters?

For example, if only digits (0-9) were used, the number of possibilities would be 10^25. That's a 1 with 25 zeros after it!

Microsoft is out to make money, plain & simple. They only way they're gonna be able to do that is to keep creating new software & convincing us that we need it.

"Vista was probably one of the worst mistakes Windows could of made"

There have been a lot of comparisons to the WinME fiasco but when WinME came out, 98SE was still available & Win2K had been released about 6 months earlier, so there were 2 viable options. IMO, WinME is no where near as horrible as it's made out to be, but it never stood a chance. With Vista, M$ is taking a different approach. They pulled the plug on all their older OS's & the XP "end of sales" date was June 30th. Vista - take it or leave it.

Heheh, loving the conversation. I find that most people who say they dont like vista haven't used it for more than an hour or so, or haven't used it at all.

It took me about 20mins to find out how the hell to even save files to the hard drive outside of the 'Documents' folder. After 2 weeks I was as settled into Vista as I was with XP. The hardest thing to get used to is the start menu which I admit I didn't like at first, but now I love it. So much easier. Also, the search function is about twenty quintillion times (Approx) faster. Honestly looking for a song in a music library is so painfully slow if I'm not using vista.

If your going with XP anyways, I'd hold back on the ram and Just get 2Gb. With 4G XP will hardly use it and around 1Gb will be unrecognized, XP already hardly uses 2Gb if you do your regular housecleaning. By the time Windows 7 is out you'll probably be wanting a new PC anyways and the 4Gb will be a wasted investment : )

If your playing games on this rig, your gonna be missing out on DX10 until Win 7 comes.

Alright everyone is starting to make me think twice but everyone i know is going to call em a hypocrite when i say i have vista on my computer. I mean it's not that i hate vista with a passion even though it may have sounded likt it but. IMO xp is just an all around good OS you can't go wrong with it I also prefer XP much more than vista. but than again if i go to the driver issues vista and xp will have the same drivers i believe for the 4850. SO i am going to relook at vista i might get vista instead now i am just not sure just. If anyone wants to convince me to go vista please cause i will have no problem switching i just want some more evidence that vista is totally the way to go.

I just think it's dumb to get your OS that way it just seems like a horrible idea but if yours is that way i guess that's cool but i do graphics design and video production and web design so i can't get an OS that way cause then i couldn't use any of my programs.

No driver probs with vista. I had it runnin on an old Socket A system. Everything worked fine, and if there was no driver specifically for Vista it allows you to use ones made for XP.

I agree with wanting a legit copy, I like to at least have a legit OS. Like you say, I already have enough programs I got 'that way'

I agree that XP is a fantastic OS, but Vista is the way forward for now and is the only OS I'd pay for. If I had to buy XP I'd sort of feel ripped, like buying a car from 1985 for new car price if you know what I mean.

Who cares if people call you a hypocrite, just tell them you changed your mind.

If you decide to go Vista try to be patient for the first couple of weeks, and if you cant figure out something look it up on the net. Alot of people disable UAC ("Are you sure you want to do this?") but I rarely ever have anything pop up with it and its safer to keep it.

Ultimately the decision is yours, but I feel that any new highly spec'd PC would be ill equipped without Vista.

Dude, grow a backbone & pair!

If you make what is apparently an informed decision after carefully weighing your options, the name calling won't get to you.

IMHO, if you are building a "Windows" machine at this time, there is very little incentive to buy any other OS besides Vista. Although, it is understandable if you have an unused XP license & you decide to load that on the machine to hold you over until Windows 7.
