So how does HL2 measure up? I haven't found the time to go get it. Better than Doom 3? Probably runs circles around Far Cry, right? Ack, Far Cry...

o yea HL2 will run circles around most of the shooters out there, only competition it has is Halo 2.

1 Step: Find Cousin
2 Step: Load Cousin into cannon
3 Step: Fire Cannon
4 Step: Find new cousin

HL2 smokes farcry & Doom3 away.Gameplay is excellent, there is always some sort of action to keep you occupied, unlike in doom 3 where you just repeat 3 or 4 redundant actions in a mindless search for pda files.
Music and sound are top notch. Its also better looking than ANY game out there.
I was not let down like I was with doom 3.
The only 2 games which will be able to come close to topping this game are FEAR and STALKER(both unreleased).
I'm also surprised I can run this game maxed out(excluding AA & AF)at a resolution of 1200x1600!!Not bad for a 2 year old system (:
Id like to see all of you other fine peoples specs and how well it runs on your machines(that is if no one starts a new thread about this).

I never even got completely thru HL1...I got bored with it. It's been a while, but last I remember, I made it to the surface, then went back into the complex again, then got into some acid trippy place with caves & stuff. Or was that from my bong? lol. Was I anywhere near the end? Maybe I should see if if I saved it so I can finish it up. Hate to try the sequel without seeing how the 1st one ended ;)

Far Cry kills doom 3 :P Doom3 kinda sucks, very reppetitive gameplay and environments. The multiplayer also sucks

I subscribe to PC Format in the UK and a couple of issues ago there was some very interesting video footage one the DVD. It shows, someone, completeting HL1 from start to finnish in 45 minutes. I sat at my PC for that long watching as this guy just swooped passed all those levels that I had gontten stuck on.
Great stuff.

Yes I did like Doom 3 better than Far Cry. I thought Far Cry was a piece of sh*t.

Oh, and how does HL2 compare graphically to Doom 3? Because I saw some Screen shots and they don't look too much better or worse thand Doom 3.

I have to disagree with you on that Avarik.
I played through both games on high settings and Half-life 2 had slightly better graphics. You were right about the performance.
