How do I backup my games?

It is legal to create a single backup of your commercial software for archive purposes. However, many new games are copy-protected in various ways. Some games I've backed up won't run off the copy - somehow the program knows it's not the original disk.
This is veering into conversation not allowed on these forums, because the same methods could be used to create multiple, illegal copies.
You might have better luck on a more game-centric site.
