hi iam gunna build my own pc but im confused will an amd athlon 64 processor 2.0ghz work on a motherboard that is compatible but only supports up to 1ghz clock speed email back plz guys :)

There are no Athlon64's that have a clockspeed on 1000MHz. Are you confusing this with the bus speed?
The S939 A64 runs at 1000MHz HyperTransport bus...this is sometimes described as 2000MHz, or more appropriately, 2000MT/s. Basically, it's all the same thing.
The S754 A64 runs at 800MHz HyperTransport bus, aka 1600MHz, or 1600MT/s.
How about telling us which CPU & which motherboard you're considering?

well im was going to go for the kv2 extreme athlon 64 motherboard and a (amd athlon 64 3000 processor) but will the motherboard be able to support the processors ghz speed

The KV2 Extreme is based on the VIA K8T800 Pro chipset which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the nForce4 Ultra or SLi chipset is generally considered the best to go with.
Here's what it says about the bus speed at the ECS website:
"Support transfer rate of 2000/1600/1200/800/400 mega-transfers per second."
Here's the list of supported CPUs:
