Hey people,

I was in the middle of playing far cry the other day when all of a sudden my screen went blank, and every time i reset, the machine would come on ok but no video!! just a black screen.

My other video cards work fine but for some reason the 6800 just will not give me a picture.

It has never been over clocked and is well ventilated, so what could have happened to it??

Please help!!

The PSU is a Q-TEC 450w.

I tried another monitor and the screen is still blank so it must be something to do with the card.

Im guessing that re installing windows wouldnt do much good.

Is there anything i can change in the bios or somthing to correct it??

You can re-install windows without a display??? blimey, you should work for Microsoft or something..

What about your old GPU, i'm guessing that you've recently upgraded if you have a 6800?
Whack it in and see what comes up. If nothing, it's something other than the GPU. If it works, your 6800 is dead!

Re-installing Windows is useless. BIOS has nothing to do with Windows either yet you still can't see it, meaning its a video card problem.

Simply RMA it.

k? thx.

LOL, didn't see that Hooner...good call. :-P

But yeah, there are other things to check out, such as the low power supply.

It could be the AGP slot on the mobo, throw a PCI video
card in and see what happens!!

correct me if i'm mistaken, i'm not that much of a computer tech, but didn't he say he had a 450 power supply, which is what a 6800 would require? And if his power supply did screw up, i dun think he could turn his computer on....

One company's 450W power supply is another company's 300W power supply.

I find it funny with all the components in my system (2 hard drives, 2 CD drives, floppy, three high speed fans, an overclocked Athlon, and a 9800 Pro video card) my Antec 350W does fine. However, I've seen 450W power supplies unable to hand a whole lot less.

Translation, read the fine print, and don't believe that wattage reading is an accurate reflection of waht the power supply can do.

He did yes, but wattage don't mean squat in todays power-hungry world, it's all about ampage and rails, and the ability of a PSU to be able to supply that ampage continuously and efficiently. A 6800 requires far more juice than your everyday cards.

But a Q-tec 450 is a good PSU and should perform well, so therefore I stick to my original answer, his card's fecked, take it back.
