Halo keeps telling me that there is a problem with Direct3D. It says it may not be accelerated, but I ran dxdiag and it Direct3D passed all the tests, and is accelerated. I heard it may be a problem with the chipset. I'm using a P4V88 ASRock motherboard, and I updated bios to 1.6. If anyone has any idea what to do, please respond. I put way to much money into this for it not to work!

What is the exact error messsage you're getting from Halo?

What video card do you have?

What video drivers are installed for it? (specifically, the version)

Sorry, I forgot to list it. I'm using an ATI Radeon 9600XT 256MB. The driver version is 6.14.10.6490 released 10/26/04.
As for halo's error message:
--Message Start--
Halo-Fatal Error

A problem occured initializing Direct3D. Hardware acceleration may be disabled, please run DXDIAG.

Machine info: 3000MHz, 512MB, 256 ATI Radeon 9600 (0x4152)
--End of Message--

There is a link for more information, but I'm still working on getting SP2 to accept the LAN connection, so I can't use my dsl connection yet.

I installed starcraft and that worked.
I installed Red Alert 2 and that worked.
I installed Jedi Knight Outcast which also worked.
The problem is these are old games so... I'm not sure what it means. If you can please help me. Thanks a lot.

Right click on your desktop.
Go to advanced settings.
There should be a tab that will show if you have full hardware acceleration on. I don't remember what the tab is called. Make sure that full hardware acceleration is on if that's the error message.

Hi all, I've been having the same exact problem.

I bought a new computer in 2003, an HP Pavillion and I cannot get my computer games to work (it did initialanlly). I was getting messaging about directX not having a ddraw.dll file. After reinstalling directx 9C 4 times, that did not work. Installing directX8 however did at least get rid of that messaging. Now it say's I am missing my 3D accesseration file and some VGA.dll file.

For example, when I try to paly Halo (the first one) I the this error:

==================================
Halo.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point MapLS could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

A problem occurred initializing DirectDraw. Hardware acceleration may be disabled, please run DXDiag.
==================================

I have run the dxdiag and it saids my 3d acceleraton is missing or not on.

I went through a few support channels and all suggested things I've tried. I took the fellows suggest and right clicked on my desk top to that advance setting and turned the acceleration high, low, then none and even reinstalled the drivers but I'm having problems even redownloading it. It gets an error message.

"I/O operation has been aborted because of the either a thread exit of an application request"

Any advice would be helpful, I'm going through gaming withdrawals.

Thanks

Here are my specs:

HP Pavilion a250n

2.60 GH
512 MB Using DMA Hardrive
NVida GeForce 4MX 440
AGP 8x graphics card with 64 MB
DDR Memory and TV out
DVD+RW/CD-RW
CD Writer and DVD Writer combo drive

I get the same messaging whe I tried to play Medal of Honor: Allied Assualt and Men of Valor.

I did to make sure that DirectX is enabled for DirectDraw and Direct3D by following these steps:

Start the DirectX configuration utility by clicking Start > Run, and then typing dxdiag.exe in the "Run" box.

Click the Display tab.

Verify that both DirectDraw Acceleration and Direct3D Acceleration are enabled; if they are not, click Enable.

The "Enable" button is "ghosted" so it won't even let me click on it and enable it.

Please, any help would be great.

I forgot to mention, that along with not being able to enable it, I get this message on the bottom:

The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.

To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.

Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.
